Importing a knife in India

Post by magnolia » Thu Aug 15, 2013 5:47 pm

I am thinking to buy a cold steel bushman knife in knifecenter worth below 50 USD . It is aprox 13 " long with a 7 " sharp blade .
Is it legal to bring in India ? Is any custom duty etc needed to be paid ?

Please share your precious experience .

as far as I have understood, any knife with a blade of less than 9" can be possessed (not necessarily carried) as per the Indian Law. someone on the forums also mentioned that the blade's height shouldn't be more than 2" or 2.5" (run a search if you please).

Further, I would suggest you purchase one locally, the Bushman was also available at oliveplanet, where I bought mine from. It saves you the anxiety and also would cost just about the same considering shipping and customs.

A fantastic and versatile knife, i have the one with the old sheath, the new plastic-ex sheath, I hear, is better.

Good luck

I think Bushman is an extra ordinary knife .
But I want to keep a Shamshir sword for personal use . So Im to go for a licence to buy one .
What are the documents needed for such a licence ?

What if the blade length is exact 9"
1 shot 1 kill!

Mangolia, an excellent choice! I would have loved to acquire a Shamshir sword myself, but I prefer to stay in the limits of law and so, I just ordered myself an Espada XL :D .. it should be delivered to a friend in the US in a few days and God Willing, in my hands upon his return in mid September.

Btw, wouldn't the Shamshir sword be available to buy from within India itself? Moin should know.
