Hello Veterans,
First, my apologies if this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find any 'latest' info in the threads on my issue, especially in the light of recent developments in the air-gun licence PFA case last year.
In regards to importing an .177 air-gun from the US, I would like to know if:
1) in case the gun (an .177 air-pistol in this case) is carried into India, in checked in luggage, by a passenger who is an Indian citizen, does he need to have a Rifle Club membership, or is it possible to legally bring one along without any such memberships?
2) what are the documents one needs to show at customs in the case of carrying in luggage?
3a) in case there are no permissions needed, can any document be acquired to prove the same in case of problem at customs?
3b) in case permissions/memberships are required, which permissions/memberships should they be?
3c) if memberships are required to carry in an air-gun, can another local (Indian) member's documents suffice, or would it be necessary for the passenger who is carrying the air gun to have membership in his name only?
4) is there a restriction on bringing in co2 canisters?
5) how many such .177 guns can one bring in luggage?
6) do the same rules apply for .177 air-pistols as well as rifles?
7) would there be a custom duty (especially if it is for self use or gifting and NOT intended for commercial sale)?
Looking forward to your replies.

Thanks for the reply Vikram, but as I said, there's too much info confusing me and most threads seem to be quote old, for eg. information from threads started in 2008 and earlier too are still alive on the first page, etc.
Was just curious about the legal relevance of the information on those older threads in case any latest amendments have been applied, esp after last years SC stay on the air-gun licensing case.
Nonetheless, this is a wonderful forum.
Maybe the mods should consider a basic import updated rules FAQ sticky for such noob queries like mine.

The rules have not changed and they remain the same.Any update has been promptly posted and discussed. All it takes is to spend some time there.
