Information regarding imported Arms

Post by inplainsight » Wed Dec 26, 2012 12:27 pm

Hello,

I was looking to get the following information, which Govt. departments should I query?

a) Quantity of Arms imported in India before the Ban?
b) Quantity of Arms imported in India after the Ban?
c) Number of criminal cases where Licensed weapons were used before the ban?
d) Number of criminal cases where Licensed weapons were used after the ban?

Would Directorate General of Foreign Trade answer a&b? who answers c&d?

Prior to Independence, arms and ammunition were freely imported into India. These were intended for military as well as civilian use. Even after Independence, the flow of weapons continued for some time. It is doubtful whether any government agency will have and be able to give you any figures. In any case, how far back do you want to go? 1857? 1757?

All the best.

Not that far back, maybe from 1959 till 2012.

I assume they would keep records of arms legally imported under the Arms Act.
