Re: Is local Police Station registration necessary ?
TC,
The incidents that you mention are years apart from each other. How does it convert to licensed firearms misuse being a major concern?
Taking your argument further, since licensed firearms are a problem, should you not surrender yours? Even you could,in a fit of anger, break the law.Or is it that only you should own a gun and everybody else should be disarmed?
I can point out instances of corruption/intimidation/black mailing by journalists. The most recent being an attempt to extort Rs. 100 crore from Naveen Jindal. Would you then agree that there should be legislated restrictions on the way you and your fraternity report events?

Winnie, I mentioned only a few incidents that I would could instantly remember. I wasn't really doing a research on the go but if you do a real extensive one you could see for yourself that in real life these incidents are not taking place years apart from each other and, as I mentioned, it is because of these idiots that thousands of true gun enthusiasts suffer --- a point you seem to have missed completely. Any sensible person would understand that I all wanted to say was supporters of RKBA suffer a hit, no matter how small or big, every time incidents like these take place.winnie_the_pooh wrote:TC,

Now, I will take your argument further. Since I am one of those (few) members who don't hide behind avatars and acronyms and reveal my face and identity I don't think this gives any forum member the right to refer to my profession when there is no objective or subjective point of reference to the topic under discussion. If tomorrow a member who practices medicine (we have quite a few out here !) says something on RKBA that you come to like will you draw references of deaths caused by medical negligence?
Now coming to your most vital question. If I am a person who takes out his gun and start shooting "in a fit of anger" (to quote you) then I HAVE NO RIGHT TO POSSESS ANY WEAPON, LET ALONE A FIREARM. because mentally unstable people pose grave danger to the society. I believe and practice this. I guess I can keep my guns till signs of senility start showing And so can everybody who is mentally stable.
TC
Could you take the pain of explaining where I suggested that all licensed firearms pose a problem OR only I should own a gun and others should be disarmed.
While it is all right to exercise freedom of speech, in this case written words, I don't think I left any hint in my last post that I or any member of IFG should surrender their guns.

Re: Is local Police Station registration necessary ?
TC,
This
In other words 'they are a nuisance'.
This
along with thisit would be difficult for the police to crack cases
coupled with thisCompared to other cities in the country number of crimes committed with licensed firearms in Kolkata is negligible. And, I can only thank the good sense of my people for that.
and thisIt is the job of the police/ government to keep a record of every licensed firearm and it is done in every country of the world. The method of keeping this record may differ but the basic philosophy remains the same. If an otherwise law abiding, tax paying citizen kills his/her neighbour or fiance or business rival or a complete stranger (an urchin for example) with his/her licensed firearm and goes on a long vacation keeping an alibi behind then the police will never take him/ her to be a suspect unless there is a record on all licensed firearms possessed by people in that neighbourhood. I read somewhere : With guns come great power and with power comes greater responsibility.Being liable and answerable is part of that responsibility. Or else, today we would be having Ponty Singh, his brother, and their hired gunmen leading the cause for RKBA.
gave me the impression that you are probably on the same side as the former Home Minister when it comes to licensed firearms.I grew up with the same belief but my perception has changed over the years. In quite a few cases registered in and around Delhi, Mumbai and other cities people have brandished and even fired their licensed firearms during incidents of road rage, drunken drawl at night clubs and business or family rivalry.
In other words 'they are a nuisance'.

i chose green because i want to be heard! When two gentlemen of your stature start to behave the way you two have been, i am often reminded of a parable i read in school. It was a thrilling tale. It involved two tigers and an orangutan . The story was set deep in the jungles of sumatra. Oh, and their was a piece of cake in there somewhere . my question is gentlemen, how long do to plan to feed the orangutan?!

Winnie. I am sorry if I my words gave you the wrong impressions. Perhaps I should have explained in detail. I had assumed that after going through my posts since 2006, my albums and, last but not the least, the full page articles on guns/ gun owners/ hunters I have published in the Hindustan Times and The Statesman most members would have known by now that I am not part of the anti-gun lobby. My mistake I guess. So lets end it here with a smile.

TC,
Very rarely do I remember old posts. The net has the habit of removing the nuances of a conversation. Not a particularly favourite medium of mine.If you are pro gun then we are friends

With all respect to all seniors here,
Why only sit tight,
go visit police station of jurisdiction of your residence(meet senior officers only). With your license and fire arm, ask them
if they have any issues or problems.
You will be surpised how helpful they are.
Try it and let us know.
Regards.
