Applying for a licence in Delhi

Post by vikram.dutta » Tue Oct 19, 2010 2:47 pm

Hi friends... :)

I am planning to apply for a shotgun licence for target shooting as I want to get into Trap Shooting. As per the information on IFG, I understand that I will have to enroll myself into the state rifle association to apply for a shotgun licence for target shooting. Now my confusion is:

:?: I am residing at Noida, so do I have to enroll myself into Delhi State Rifle Association(DSRA) or U.P. State Rifle Association?

:?: Will enrolling into National Rifle Association of India(NRAI) might be of help in this case?(i.e to get a shotgun licence and practice at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range?)

My request to all the experienced people from Delhi to please advice me on this. Thanks!

Regards
Vikram

As far your question of joining which rifle association is concerned, probably dev, amit888_2000, mundaire, m24, olly or those who are into shooting sport at Delhi will be able to give proper answer. If your reply is not answered in reasonable time, you may send them a PM

As far the question of your license is concerned, you will have to get it from Noida since you are residing in Noida. In order to take your gun to any place in Delhi, you will have to get area validity of your license extended to cover Delhi also. If you are applying for smooth bore gun(NPB Shotgun) for self defense, then as per the provisions of Arms Act 1959, the licensing authourity should grant you license. If you are applying for smooth bore gun(NPB Shotgun) for "sport" then licensing authourity may ask from you, about your membership details in some govt. recognized rifle club.

Joining UP state rifle association(it's in Lucknow) would be more logical, though don't see the difference frankly. As for NRAI, it's your call as all state rifle associations are anyway affiliated to NRAI.

1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Thanks m24.

If I join UP State Rifle Association, where will I apply for the Licence? In Noida i guess,(and not in Delhi) right?

Will I be able to carry a weapon to Delhi(Karni Singh Range) if I join UP State Rifle Association and get the licence in Noida?

Is joining NRAI and applying for licence in Delhi going to be less confusing? I mean if Licences are valid in Delhi & NCR, I wont have to go to Lucknow?

Please advice.

Regards
Vikram

The licensing authorities that have jurisdiction over the area of your place of residence, can only issue you arms license. Hence the rifle club membership is immaterial in deciding which Licensing Authority will issue arms license to you.

Your carrying your weapon to Delhi is not decided by your membership to any rifle club or place of issue. If the area validity of your license states that it includes Delhi, then you can carry to Delhi, else not. Practical way is to go to the office of Licensing Authourity in Noida and ask them, what papers do they require in order to issue a license for NPB shotgun for "sport" and the area validity to also cover Delhi, since you would like to practice in Delhi. Probably they will ask to submit membership details of rifle club in Delhi, in order to also include Delhi in the area validity of your license. You can refer the following for details: http://www.noidapolice.com/index_armsam.php

You can join NRAI but cannot apply for arms license in Delhi unless you are residing in Delhi.

There is the recently revived Gaziabad District Rifle Association as well, they have recently set up their shooting range in Gaziabad and to the best of my knowledge the range is functional and membership is open. It may be an idea to check them out... I don't have the contact details, so you'll have to dig those out on your own.

Goodboy is correct on the licensing bit, you will need to apply from wherever you are normally resident.

Cheers!

The shooting range of Gaziabad is probably in Nevari village. Had heard that it was inaugurated on April 17. Can try sending PM to a gentleman from Ghaziabad with id of bhaskar.

Alright thanks goodboy_mentor. I found a thread http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 42&start=0 started by T.P. Tyagi, Vice President, Ghaziabad District Rifle Association. He is by the user name auatai. But the thread was started on January this year. This gentleman hasn't responded on the thread after that. I will try bhaskar.
