Top 10 Air Rifles in the World

Post by nash » Mon Jun 14, 2010 2:23 am

Hi guys!

I've been searching all over the world wide web looking for the top 10 air rifles but didn't find anything comprehensive.. So I thought why not ask our own desi gun gurus and experts to compile a Top 10 list of air rifles (springers / PCPs) based on their performance alone.. ( lets allow the price factor to take a walk for a while)
I thought it'll help all the newbies and novices immensely to find the best guns available on the planet...

Thanks and regards..

Nash.

Nice topic, but its pretty hard to say like this . if you are grouping them based on Accuracy Match Rifles will be my first preference anyway at a first thought below are the makes and models that comes to my mind. I am excluding all the Match rifles here just to limiting my choice in general category.

1. Wishcombe JW75 ( Its a dream to own , but just Never Ever DONT dry fire this one)
2. Daystate Mk4 (When Technology counts)
3. Prairie Falcon Sporter
4. Feinwerkbau 124 ( I never saw more accurate rifle than this one in Break Barrel Springer category)
5. Air Arms TX200 HC (A True Balance in Power and Accuracy)
6. HW77K
7. Beeman R9 (Another Most Accurate one in B/B Springer Category)
8. Webley Spectre Mark 2
9. Air Force Condor
10 RWS 460 Magnum and RWS54
Thanks and Regards,
Saptarshi

Great idea Nash!

Perhaps we could list the Top Ten under the categories:

- Pneumatic Airguns - Multi Stroke, Single Stroke, Pre-Charged
- Spring-Piston Airguns
- CO2 Airguns - disposable powerlet, refillable cylinder

Excellent listing there by Saptarshi

Springers
========

HW97K
HW77K
TX200
HW50S
HW30S
HW95
Diana 34
Diana 35
Diana 24
BSA Meteor

- Accuracy (of course as high as possible)
- Balance of the air rifle (not too muzzle heavy or butt heavy)
- Weight (lesser the better)
- Force required for cocking (lesser the better)
- Power (825fps in .177 and 615fps in .22)

They all fit my criteria for springers except some in the power department.

Keep the list coming guys!!

I think it would be fair to split the list into two.. One for the Springers and another one for PCPs..

Keep it coming!!

??? Split the lists, so you mean:

Top ten springers
Top ten PCPs,
Top ten multi pumps
Top ten CO2s
Top ten break barrels......and so on

Wow, you might end up with a directory of all air rifles manufactured on the planet at this rate, rather than a top ten countdown!!!

I have a feeling our dealer friends are watching this, to decide which guns to drive up prices on
A year ago, when the Feinwerkbau 124 mania hit airgunbbs in the U.K., a lot of people made a fat killing on guns that were virtually ignored before then.

Hmmm I guess we don't need to split that so much.. Else It'll be totally SPLIT WIDE OPEN..

May be we can have one dedicated list for springers and the rest in another one..

I own a Norinco XSb3 model air rifle(besides a Diana,International-Indian made and a Daisy),its a copy of the Type56,with folding butt, but without the magazine. The spring tends to ware off after 4000 or so shots,accuracy-1\2 inch groups at 25 mts(without telescope).Planning to get a Baikal or a Hatsan this time when I return home(finance permitting of course). The hatsan costs about 120$(break open model, walnut stock-or so they claim),and the Baikal costs around90$(breach loading, spring). Will let you'll know as soon as I can.Regards

Will let us know ..which ones of yours you plan to add in the top ten lists then?

Honestly though, every time I think of contributing a list to this thread, I am reminded to the weaknesses in each of the guns. (HEAVY TX/pro sport/Whiscombes, harsh fwb 124 (and a crap trigger), potentially tunable weirauchs, cheap feeling AA400/410, modern age Daystates whose batteries run out in the middle of FT matches, temperamental Steyrs that choose you as much as you choose them, and what would have been my favourite, the Walther Dominator LG3000, but it's too heavy with a scope on top to shoot properly (for me).

I'll guess I'll just fence sit, b**ch about the winner, and sound all knowing as I offer the old adage, the best gun is what you shoot best with. When I have my Viking funeral, I'll go with my V mached Hw80.

Hi hamiclar,
I would probably add the Diana to the list!!!

Amit,

They will feature among the list of top ten PCPs and will definitely be among the top 5.
