Help - Umarex S&W .177 Dissemble

Friends,

I have a problem with my Umarex S&W 686, 6" Barrel, .177 Cal, 12g Co2 Capsule Powered Revolver, Replica of S&W 357, 10-shot capacity rotary magazine, 2-stage trigger action.

The weapon is jammed - when the trigger is depressed gently and the hammer drawn back with the thumb - the hammer should get cocked in the first step of double action mode. This action seems to have jammed and no amount of pressure on the trigger moves the action. In short the revolver does not fire at all.

I have checked the various common problem areas - removing the cylindrical magazine and examining for any stuck pellets in odd places, but I am completely stumped.

I was wondering if any of the members have experience in dissembling such a weapon. Any pointers would be helpful, as I am planning to open it up - hoping that I dont have springs and parts flying all over, the moment I unscrew the first fastener! :?

Look forward to comments and suggestions. Many thanks

The manual given with the gun must be having some common trouble shooting problems before you need to open the piece.

If you do not have the manual please check the following site.

I would not recommend opening it by yourself. I would suggest that you take both the gun and a copy of the manual to somebody who is knowledgeble in these matters. It worked for me.

Very useful link to various manuals, thanks Iceman!

I have checked the manual both, hard copy and the online one but the problems mentioned are quite basic and do not cover the current situation. I spoke to the local dealer, who says that although there is no 'real' repair facility he will give it a shot if I take the weapon over to him. I guess I will give this option a try and see what comes up. Fingers crossed!

You are quite right, I agree with you about not opening it up myself. Although I have had plenty of successful, self-taught, tinkering experience on a variety of equipment, I am still hesitant to mess about with the S&W. Thanks once again for your feedback and link.

ckkalyan,

The pistol will have to be opened and checked to see if some part is broken or a if spring has slipped. The bad news is the innards are quite complicated. If you are hesitant to do it yourself I suggest you do not.

Probably take it to the local gunsmith shop or the shop you bought it from may send it for servicing. Carry a copy of the exploded parts diagram to them just in case. Here is the link to it below.

Thanks Fantumfan,

for the exploded parts diagram, very useful. I'll be taking the piece to the shop as suggested.
