Air rifles/pistols are allowed to be imported duty free by any one who is the member of a rifle club/association.
Take one example of this air rifle Air Arms S410
http://www.pyramydair.com/p/air-arms-s4 ... ifle.shtml
On sale for USD 961.99.That is roughly INR 48,000/-.
+
USD 200-300 pr INR 10,000-15,000/- for transportation.
+
Custom duty NIL.
Total cost INR Max 63,000/-.
+
Now to this add the cost of becoming a NRAI life member(one time cost) about INR 21,000/-(should be half of this if you become the member of a state rifle association).
Total cost would be INR 84,000/-.That is about INR 31,000/- cheaper than what some one wants for the same rifle.
+
Subsequently you would be able to import an air rifle/pistol on the basis of the life membership of the rifle association that you have joined.
