Hi guys

While going through mutiple threads on the import procedure saga of airguns, i could not not locate any memorandum, notification or any official doc saying that an airgun is allowed to import as checked in baggage irrespective of its calibre, i may not be the the most updated guy here, but if this is true then theoritically we can get Big bad boys of airguns such as Sumatra or Shin Sung, Samyang etc which starts fom .177, .20,.22,.25, 9mm, .45 & even 50 cal,,,,,, pls enlighten me on whats the ground reality of importing airguns through baggage route for calibres except .177

Because i dont want to be stuck up with a brand new rifle in my baggage and yet not have anything to shove under the noses of men in white, if theres such an notification which if says that even a .22 cal is okay if imported through baggage then i would be so very thankful to gentleman who can help me out with it.

Firstly, only .177 is allowed in to the country tax free if you are a member of a recognized rifle club. (There are copies of the notification some where in the forum).This should be accompanied by a letter from the club that states that you are a regular shooter. Even in the .177 category, repeaters are usually stoped.
You could bring in a .22 if you are ready to pay up the tax etc. But remember in most probability, your gun would be subjected to the dreaded deal wood test. Guns like the Sumarta, Benjamin super streak etc are sure not to pass the test. So if the men in white tell you that your gun has to under go the test, you can kiss your gun goodbye.

GOI rules clearly state that only .177 is allowed through import or baggage, that also against the required set of papers. Anything else, you need an approval and license from the Sports Ministry, DGFT and anybody else who is involved.

So, don't bring in a .22. If you do, it will be at your own risk.
