Hey All,
I just wanted to know is there some caution we need to exercise before we start shooting with a brand new air rifle?
Is it ready to use, out of the box? Any kind of oiling, tuning etc? Especially, I'm novice in all these areas, so any pointer will be of a great help!

Here are some good safety rules for shooting safe. They may seem common sense but common sense is not very common these days.

As for taking care of your air rifle, some tips in this blog...

Take some help from enthusiasts from your city, several of them here ....

Thanks M, good pointers. I still have one question more.
1. I do not have any cleaning equipment/compound -- is this absolutely necessary?
If so, any names to suggest?

Clean the bore before shooting.
Which air rifle have you got ?
You can use a thin non metallic stick. I use thin bamboo stick from kites on my breakbarrel and cotton ear bud (they work great in .177cal). Don't use any a metallic brush.
Generall cleaning bore is a once in 1000 pellets affair. After every usage wipe all metallic surfaces with a small oiled cotton rag which will protect from rusting.
Thats all.
