Dear Friends...

Big Daddy and Lucky Luke, the Hyderabad IFG members came home on Sunday afternoon.

Fine gentlemen, both.

It was a real pleasure meeting them and being with them. And they came with their guns. BD with his Canon and LL with his IHP.

In no time we were shooting these guns at my 15m setup in the garden and this is what I have to say….

CANON LG 65 .22 and IHP.22

1. Canon front sight – good, quality on par with IHP.
2. Rear sight – good, better than IHP. IHP rear sight is hopeless.
3. Peep sight – good. I have seen a peep sight on a few IHPs and the quality is pathetic.
4. Muzzle brake – Okay, the rifle can very well do without it. IHP does not have one.
5. Barrel – poor breech end crowning. Rifling is good. Lock up mechanism is good. Cocking lever is two piece, so
stock covers up more under the receiver and you cannot see/access the mainspring. Over all finish of barrel
and other accessories is on par with IHP.
6. Compression chamber/Receiver – good, quality on par with IHP. But, it is not lining up well with the stock.
7. Trigger – Not very good, direct and very hard. IHP is a lot better.
8. Stock – Okay, finish can be better. Somehow, I like the IHP stock, it is simple.
9. Balance – good.
10. Power – hmmm!....with Mastershot wadcutter 15.43gr – 412, 434 and 427fps. IHP – 503, 508, 527! Will check
on this later after BD’s gun breaks in. The IHP used for comparison was a tuned one and one that had 3000
odd pellets thru it already. The Canon had done only 75.
11. Accuracy – Good, on par with IHP. Rifle was bang on target at 15m within two shots of sighting in. Inspite of
the hard trigger!

My take – the Canon is an unsung hero, with a proper tune, this rifle will do a lot better. Yes, you can buy this rifle.

The Canon will now leave for Chennai, to Thirths….he will give you the internals comparison…..and of course, the post tune report….

Regards

P K Jeetesh

> Hey you lucky Guys - must've had a rocking time testing & comparing weapons.
> Tks. for sharing the data - we stand better educated!
> As per my chat with Tirths a few days ago, the materials (metal) used in Canon65 is superior. an independent metallurgist should be able to confirm this. But I take Tirths word for it.
> Barring a few give & takes both IHP & Canon seem to be the two sides of the same coin. But then personal preferences have to be honoured.
> The final crux of the matter is - all air rifles have to be TUNED to enhance performance.
> Lastly if one prefers open / peep sights, I understand Canon65 scores over IHP - but then again if one mounts a good scope - does it matter?

A few hours with Jeetesh was real learning :D . I'm sure Lucky Luke will second that. It was nice of him to let us play around with his other guns. Jeetesh's IHP, simply put is 'love expressed' He's done a great job to that gun. And yes! post tuning i'll hand over the Canon to Jeetesh for further trial. Looking forward to meet at the range guys.

Hi Jeetesh, sent you a mail. Could you advice on the content.

Great report PKJ!
Trigger adjustable screw is hidden under the end-cap. You can make the trigger super light with that. I am bit surprised with the fps it is showing. Mine is 810 fps in .22. Of course mine is super tuned but expected at least 600 the stock one.

Which chrono you are using Tirth? Can you post some pictures of speed testing with your chrono so that other members will know the correct set up to check speed of pellets.

Hi Guys ... seems that I'm a bit late here. The reason being that I've just recovered from seeing the jaw-dropping gun collection of pkjeetesh. I wouldn't like to give details, and I'm willing to bet that Jeetesh being the modest person that he is isn't gonna be voluteering any info regd them either ! :)

But 'nuff about his guns as the subject here is Big Daddys Canon - all I can do is nod wisely at Jeetesh's comments and act knowledgeable. But do correct me if I'm wrong about the relative fps readings Jeetesh but my recollection is this : -

BD's Canon - averaged 420 fps
My IHP - maxed @ 730 fps ( using your lubed pellets )
Your tuned IHP - 812 fps.

I very specifically ask Pkj and NOT Big Daddy 'cos BD was busy on the cell with his bro in the UK and was ordering scopes by the dozen ! & he happened to miss the entire chrono session. :D

On the whole the entire Sunday was a very very Educative ( and I learnt how to load and cock a gun the proper way ! ) AND Fun . I met 3 great guys and look forward to their company many more times.

Big Daddy - I'll second the " let's meet at the range " proposal of yours.

Jeetesh - Thanks a heap for going out of your way to share your knowledge AND your Guns !

Tirths the figures you have mentioned looks impressive . Even if the gun shoots at 600 fps it would still be much more powerful than an IHP. As mentioned about your super tuned gun, can you share the tuning details and the cost involved.

Amaresh.

Hi Tirths / PKJ,
Adjusted the trigger screw. My my...the trigger has become soooooo soft. I kinda gave quiet a few hard 'butt hit' to see if the trigger would slip and fire accidentally. The trigger held its ground. Accuracy has increased very dramatically.

@BD: Congrats! Yes this is the only Indian make I know which trigger can be adjusted. Have fun buddy.

@Amaresh : Sometime tuning cost will be more than the cost of rifle. But yes, in return what you can get will be a different gun all together. DB and LL already experienced PKJ's tuned one and they expressed their satisfaction. Super tuning involves, putting custom made power plant +some physics +right lube

dear big daddy,
Same like connon , Tommy has identical trigger. my tommy got stolen from gun smith shop very recently.i had drilled one hole on the top of trigger cap so as to adjust as per need from outside,a tight spring guide was made as per the advice of PKJeetesh,it was very accurate. as the main spring looses initial power and stabilizes , grouping would improve surely.need to mention tuning improves the performance in every respect.
