shooting .177 calibre through .22 ihp rifle
hey ppl!
well, i tried it on my old ihp .22 cal air rifle using "paper patching technique"...u wud have heard of this in the movie "shooter"..n it perfectly works
the first question u wud ask is "why should we do this??"
well...this is useful if u aspire to do some long range plinking or sniping winning the power of a .22 calibre with the accuracy and flight stability of .177 toned in.
this was a crash test for target shooting so please dont expect that level of accuracy..
so here u go..<make sure that u use an old rifle or sumthing u dont love much..it harms the rifling(grooves) inside the barrel>
--> take a strip of butter paper slightly wider then the lenth of the pellet
--> wrap it precisely and tightly around the .177 pellet, thick enough to gain the circum of a .22
--> stick the lasl layer using a fine drop of gun oil.
--> insert it in the groove.load and fire
the paper matches the grooves of the pellet and the barrel..the paper ejects out and so does the pellet.if some paper keeps stucking in the barrel, take a blank shot.
the .177 does not match the barrel rifling as it is smaller thn the barrel hence we dont get very high precision required for target practise.but the early kick off within the wrapped paper makes the pellet roll enough to gain some stability.hence this is essentially good for 30 to 65 meters shooting..
i got perfect round holes at 30 meters and great accuracy<above my expectations !!>so go ahead.happy sniping !!

The rifling will not get damaged but the washer sure will.

Stop doing it or your rifle will be kaput. The IHP isn't a piece of junk its a pretty decent air rifle, if you don't want it give it away.
