Hi
I want to buy an air riffle and an air pistol. I want to buy these two because
1. I want to do soeme target practice <10 m in my back yard so I dont want anything very very powerful
2. I dont want to get into a legal hassel of buying a gun for which I may have to prove a milliom things and fill in a 1000 forms
3. I dont think I can afford a good firearm
I have used air guns in past and think I am a good marksman, but these were some air pistols and air guns I used with my friends and in fairs and other places.
I dont know much about air guns. Doing some reserch online I find that there are many good ones which I could afford had I been in US or in UK but I am not.
My questions are
1. Where in India - Delhi can I buy air guns. Hopefully a place which will not rip me off
2. Any suggessions around which air psitol and air gun I should buy for a 10 m range which is not very powerful but has the following features
a. It uses (CO2)Gas power instead of me have to pull the entire spring action
b. It has a magzine instead of single pellets
I want to buy both a riffle and a pistol
3. What would be the approx price of these suggested guns, just so that I can carry the required cash / ensure cards have enough money
4. What other stuff do I need to purchase other than guns, pellets, CO2 gas catrage ?
5. Do air guns need cleaning
6. I want to do target practice what is the stuff for target practice with air gun called so that I can look it up online
7. Any book I can read ?
anything else I should know ?
Thanks
Regards
Gaurav

Gaurav,
There are pages of discussion on different thread on which airgun to buy so just take a look into them and you will automatically know which one suits you better , anyway here are my 2 cents
1. Where in India - Delhi can I buy air guns. Hopefully a place which will not rip me off
May be a Member from Delhi can help you on this , if you want to check the gun personally before buying it. Incase, if you decided the Model already . Order it online. Its much cheaper than shop .
2. Any suggessions around which air psitol and air gun I should buy for a 10 m range which is not very powerful but has the following features
a. It uses (CO2)Gas power instead of me have to pull the entire spring action
b. It has a magzine instead of single pellets

Apart from Indian Hume Pipe I dont know any Indian Brands Makes CO2 version or not, Consider how you fill up CO2 everytime when your Cylinder is empty. Stick to a Break Barrel Springer if you want hassle free Indian rifle at a affordable price. Otherwise you can consider Foreign makes if budget is not a problem and you are really serious about target shooting. Rifle generally dont comes with Magazine, they usually single shotter, some foreign model comes with rotary chambers , but not seen any on any Indian brand. I dont know any Indian Pistol apart from national , comes in .177 Caliber and has decent accuracy at 10M range.
3. What would be the approx price of these suggested guns, just so that I can carry the required cash / ensure cards have enough money
3-5K should be a decent budget for Indian make rifle depending on what you are buying and from where. Not sure about pistol price.
4. What other stuff do I need to purchase other than guns, pellets, CO2 gas catrage ?
Some Gun Cleaning Accessories, Grease and oil will be a good idea.
5. Do air guns need cleaning -
Yes Just like standard Firearms
6. I want to do target practice what is the stuff for target practice with air gun called so that I can look it up online
Not very clear about your question, there are many version available from general plinking to 10M ISSF style shooting. Do a little research online.
7. Any book I can read ?
YES, The best book ever wrote on Air Rifle shooting is Ways of Rifle by Gaby Buehlmann, this is available in india by Abhinav Futurastic (Companys of Bindra) , But this book may cost you more than your indian rifle, approx 5K in INR, so I will advise you to stick to online material . They are great stuff to start with.
Hope this helps

The IHP airguns are probably the best 'Indian' variety, although there are a few other local manufacturers too and as disclosed earlier, the prices can vary between 2.5 - 5K.
If you would like to experience any of the foreign makes, just keep a lookout for, and join in one of the IFG offline meets of the Delhi Darlings. It would be a feast for your eyes, to say the least...

Hi Gaurav,
> I underestand from fellow IFGian 'Tirths' that the Cannon LG65 made in Kolkata is good as compared to IHP35 made by Indian Hume Pipe in Ahmedabad.
> The workmanship, design and especially the trigger mechanism appears to be superior. Suggest you get the address from Tirths and get it shipped to you.
> The design I believe is based on the famous BSF model made earlier in Germany.
> Good Luck!

Hi everyone
Thanks so much for all the inputs, you have all been very kind. Concidering all factors and availability I bought National rifles and a National pistol.
For targets I was able to download them from the net and make copies. I also created a home made stand and am waiting for getting into srifort club or some place.
I guess on my next trip out of inida I will try to buy an imported one.
Thanks a million
Gaurav
