IHP .22 Disassembly -- Help

Friends,

I just joined this group after spending many interesting hours browsing the nice articles here.

I had bought an IHP .22 Airgun some years back. Last week after cocking it, and puuling the trigger it didnt fire. The spring appears compressed but the trigger doesnt release it. I gave it to the delear (Asian Armory -- Bangalore) for repair. After promising to look at it, he still hasnt, its the usual today, tomorrow. Today Im going to get it back.

I saw a nice post by tirths (http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic ... 794#p55224) "My success and failure of IHP tuning" with some nice photos, which gave me some idea of how to dismantle it. Since I have some experience in workshop practice (I have a small hobby vert. milling machine), I decided to do it myself. Ill have to start by improvising some kind of spring compressor

I do however have some questions pertaining to tirths excellent post:

1) What is that Rs 2 coin for?
2) After removing the 2nd pin, do you screw out the compresser or does it just slide out? ie is it threaded on to the barrel?

Thanks in advance for your help.

vkj

PS After reading the excellent articles here, Im all fired up and cant wait to do some of the modifications Ive read about.

Hi

welcome to the forum
1. that 2 rs coin is just to cover the spring compressor and the force is equally distributed on the compressor, its not a spare part.
2.After removing the ping the Spring just come out with force. its not screwed.
WORD OF CAUTION, PLS BE CAREFULL IT will COME OUT WITH LOT OF FORCE, If you dont have any thing to keep the spring compressed, then pls dont do it ur self.
Take it to mechanic who would have some vice or bench to compress it.

Thanks for your input. Actually I had given it to the dealer for repair, but he kept jerking me around with different excuses. I got fed up and got it back. In fact a look at his dingy "workshop" did not inspire any confidence!

After half an hour of google found this excellent forum.

I will first make a improvised vice based on the photos. In fact I just purchased a 1/2'' x 8" bolt yesterday for the purpose. If I survive, I'll let you all know the details :D

Cheers,

vkj

Friends,

After some moderately exciting moments I was able to dismantle the gun. I did cut myself on some sharp edge  , but otherwise unscathed. I fashioned a vise with a bolt and some pieces of block board. And of course, the Rs 2 coin. Tools: Hand drill, screwdrivers, tapset, and drift. Anyone wants to know the gory details please feel free to let me know.

Question:

For some reason the piston is extremely tight in the cylinder. In its normal travel region, it needs about 10lbs to get it moving. But while pulling it out, at the end, it was much tighter: I had to grip the piston rod in a vise and lever it out with a screwdriver. The washer is made of leather.

Is this normal?? And if indeed the fit is too tight, how does one go about loosening it?

Also I read in the book on Airgun servicing that was posted by someone here, that one shd be able to feel a nice vacuum when you stop the transfer port with a finger and pull hte piston out. I couldnt feel this, tho in the opp. direction I did feel some compression. But somehow the gun did use to shoot OK (But then Im no expert).

I was expecting to see a nice smooth-finished cylinder, instead I found it quite grooved (like a brake disc). Not a well machined part.

Thanks in advance for any input.
