Hello everyone,
I tried to search the forum but i was not able to find any solution. My parents have gone to UK and they have bought a gamo p800 .177 airpistol. So i started searching google for latest import rules. I found out that according to the latest budget

"Chapters 90 to 96
90.1. Customs duty and CV duty have been exempted on air guns of 0.177 calibre (air
rifles and air pistols) of Chapter 93. Consequently, these goods are also exempted from 4%
special additional duty of customs (S.No. 582 of notification No. 21/2002-Customs,
inserted vide notification No.21/2008-Customs, refers)"

SOURCE: 1. http://www.eximtimes.in/cexim/budget2008/exnotecus.pdf
2. http://cenexcisenagpur.nic.in/tradenotice/tn_2008-1.htm

So this means that the air pistol can be imported without any problem. I am not sure about the deal wood test but i am sure the pistol will pass it cause its not that powerful. I think that i dont even have to pay customs for it but i am not sure.If anyone knows any new laws regarding the above, help will we really appreciated. One more thing i think should be done is that, it should be marked as a gift on the customs declaration form as it it less then Rs 10,000 so i think it would be considered a gift so again one more reason of no duty. I even know that to import the air guns or air pistols one dosent need a air rifle club membership any longer, but still my dad is in the army if that would help.
Please give your valuable advise because i not much knowledgeable on such issues
Cheers
King

Hi,

Who told you that no club membership is required in the docs I have there is mention to member ship all over and those are the docs probably the custom guys are having with them, so when you go to them they will wave the same document on your face, and yes being in Army has not merit to this end.

Regards

anyways bringing in baggage it comes as declared item which can be brought with no problem as it doesn't come under section "due import" anyone returning to India after a brief visit overseas is allowed to import articles worth 25k or so it was last time when I came.
Also you parents bought it in Uk then the pistol is 100% under power limit , further you don't have to declare it even though you will have to inform the airline in advance that you are bringing an airgun in the checked in baggage and they would like to see it before they allow it in the baggage as UK has become strict in that area after the bombings and persisting threat.
Only action point for you is -
get the airline help desk and ask them you intend to bring a airpistol with you, and follow their suggestion, rest is smooth don't even think about it.
All the best.

so my parents are boarding the plane today, the bottom line is that they should keep the pistol in their checked in baggage after showing the airline the invoice and the after airline inspecting the pistol. then they can go via the green channel? so if they pack it in the baggage, it wont require a membership? please answer urgently. cause if no then they have to sell the gun to someone in the uk cause they wont be able to bring it
