Disaster - AIMCO MOD 200

Hi Friends,
I earlier posted some review of my own on MOD 200 of AIMCO.
Now the model has proved it self "a complete failure and a disaster" at least in my case.
Just yesterday I took the air rifel and started shooting in my range. There was a pack of .22 pellets supplied by AIMCO it self which I never used before. I inserted very same pellet and shot....... nothing happened at the target. With out any further verification I inserted another AIMCO pellet and shot once more.... once again nothing happened... Then I realized that the pellets were stuck in the barrel it self. I dint get any idea for removing those stuck pellets with out ruining the rifling. (those pellets were very tight to insert and had to apply bit more pressure to insert in to barrel).
Then I took the usual pellet "Master Shot" and shot once more. (i though it will push the those stuck pellets out) but that also stuck. Then I h ad to insert a thin metal rod in to barrel and had to struggle a llot to take out those pellets.
After I removed those pellets, suddenly the power of the rifle decreased so much that i had to shoot twice to push out one single pellet. Even worse, some pellets never reached 10 MTS down the range.
i had to admit that I shot 2 or 3 shots with out inserting the pellets while three pellets were stuck inside the barrel, thinking that, stuck pellets will give cushioning effect to piston as no air was escaping from barrel. (I blew air in to barrel which didn't escape).
Friends please suggest me what to do to regain the power in my air rifle....?
Regards,
Krishna

looks like the piston washer separated out from PISTON. You got to dismantle the gun it and set everything back. Please get help from some seniors from your locality or if you would like to experiment yourself, go ahead but use a GUN VISE and take extreme measure while dismantling or it may kill you!
Good Luck!

You may not like what I am telling you. Don't think that I am rubbing you the wrong way.
The takeaway from this episode for you is you need to learn a little more about using your airgun.
If you fire a shot and feel the pellet has not left the barrel (or stuck in the barrel) then first check by looking through the breech that its clear (that is no pellet stuck in the barrel).
To remove a stuck pellet, just break the breech open, don't cock the rifle and from the muzzle end insert a non metallic stick (thin plastic or bamboo rod works) and force the pellet out through the breech.
After removing stuck pellet, try loading and firing the next pellet. If the problem persists then the air rifle needs expert attention. Someone from here at IFG in Bangalore can help you out. You obviously don't have the skills to take apart an air rifle and put it together yourself.

Tirths,
From his narration you ought to gauge that this shooter knows nothing about airguns. So the best advice to give him is not to tinker with his air rifle on his own and take it to an expert. None else.....

Kitty,
frankly speaking ,there is no logic in firing three pellets one after another when the first one is stuck in the muzzle......even with my IHP rifle I have faced a similar problem & simply pushing the pellet out with a metal rod or bambu stick is a good measure.....never try to push an over sized pellet in the muzzle....simply discard it & use another one ...regards

Buddy Funtum, I always like people to know their toy well and learn more about it. And I think this a a golden chance for Kitty. And you see and you know shooters are different and people who has passion for this usually more "natural" janta. They have hidden engineering within them. Remember your first day? I am sure Kitty can do well and may be another expert in the bay soon!

Tirtha
Who are you kidding ? kitty or yourself ?
How can you even suggest to /encourage a newbie to open up his springer when does not even know the basics of springer operation ?
A person who loads three times after misfires is in serious need of training in air rifles, knowing his own air rifle and knowing about tinkering with air rifles. STRICTLY IN THAT ORDER. Every one does not have mechanical skills or a knack for mechanical things.
Kitty
I am not even thinking of putting you down, honest truth. Don't get me wrong but please get yourself trained in shooting with air rifles. I am sure at least one person will help you from Bangalore.

Hello all,
I agree that a newbie should not open up his springer, but guys there are lots of newbies out here who want to learn (including me). Instead of telling us to stop it would be better if all u veterans and experts could guide us as to how to do it properly. There are no courses or tutions to learn about the same. Any help regarding Do's and Dont's would be much appreciated.

All,
I did come down heavily on kitty (and tirtha) but that was for kitty's safety.
I think there is a need for an article to show how to use a break barrel springer.
You must be thinking...."Has he lost it or what ? "
But think about it....we have how-to's for all the advanced topics like tuning etc....but not basics like how to shoot a springer.
I would be upset the most if there were a mishap to take place due to lack of training and knowledge.
Can you imagine kitty do the same thing with a firearm, I am sure everyone to a man would scream about training, safety course and what not......
Now you want to learn to tune yourself.....great.....I am here to help....
In addition to links posted by Vikram, this is the 12 part series I use as my basic text......
http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2006/08/ ... inish.html
All the topics may not apply to your particular air rifle, but you will get the hang of it.....
Me being me...I'll sign of with a note of caution. The first time round, do it with an expert so he can guide you. IFG has such an expert in every major Indian city.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, NEVER TRY TO OPEN A SPRINGER WITHOUT A SPRING COMPRESSOR.
THATS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

Manish,
A very useful and informative post.Thank you.Are there any articles do you think that can be used as reference manuals, especially about air guns/rifles, for our members? Or, do you think any useful articles/reference materials can be prepared/designed by us?Appreciate your reply.Thanks.
