Importing .177 Air Pistol from Greece to New Delhi in India

Hi,

I am confused  here and the confusion is that I want to get (import) a .177 Air Pistol of Model C88 of Amarex (8 pellets Mill loaded Walther type) powered with compressed Air Cartridge, which costs € 220  (euros) in Greece. As a matter of fact, such model is not available in my city Ludhiana or in surrounding cities as well...

My Relative would bring it to New Delhi Airport... Would you be kind enough to tell (suggest) me the procedure to clear it from customs if there is any!!! I am afraid at custom they might create trouble for it, so even under the ******EDITED - any further posts asking for advice about bribing a public official/ anything else illegal will result in a warning. Thank you for your co-operation - Moderator***** is open to me...As far as it is not a law forbidden article as it does not lie under fire arm category...

The Pistol would be baggage carried... Also please suggest if I should ask them to bring the compressed air cartridges along with a pack of pellets or not...

Thanks, if my query is replied fast...

Bhupa :(

Have you read http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2315 and http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3481 ? If not you should, these two threads should answer all your queries related to bringing back the air-pistol.

Airlines won't allow CO2 cartridges to be transported, so unless your friend plans to sail into India on a ship, that is not an option.

Pellets are fine, in fact you should ask him to get you a minimum of 5 tins of pellets, RWS Hobby pellets should do very nicely in this air-pistol.

Cheers!

This is what I experienced two days back at delhi Airport, so please ensure you have all the paper work sorted.

- .177 as well as .22 (air pistols and air rifles) are restricted if imported via baggage route. All exemptions are applicable only for import through cargo route.
- for those with club membership cards, 100% duty is to be paid.
- Clearance from DGFT has now been made mandatory.
- pending this whole paperwork, the weapon will be detained by the customs.

It's possible that I have been plain unlucky but its good to know the current mood of the white brigade
