Jimmy Under-lever Air Rifle

Post by Lawman » Fri Oct 16, 2009 4:04 pm

Hi, today I purchased one underlever air rifle (.22) from an air-rifle factory at Kidderpur in Kolkata. The name of the company is Jimy and it has charukee spring and it is powerful. The trigger is tight. It costs Rs. 2000/-. So, I am not expecting much from it. But the power is awesome. Posting the pictures below.

Nice to see members bringing up reviews of the lesser known local brand name air-rifles... after all the vast majority of air-rifles in India are produced in the small scale sector and only sold within limited geographies! Like many others here I too grew up with one of the local brands. Who knows, we may just find a gem amongst the variety of small scale makers...

Like everyone else, look forward to seeing the performance review! :) It's a fixed barrel, so accuracy should theoretically be a bit better than the break barrels, but being a "tap loader" the power levels (again theoretically) should be a bit lower.... ceteris paribus... :)

Cheers!

Abhijit,
if the top loader is grinded by valve grinding paste ,will it not stop the air leakage as done in domestic gas oven ?

Hi, sorry for the delay in writing the review of Jimy Under-lever .22 air rifle. It tested it yesterday. It has a cherokee spring and it is powerful. I tested its accuracy and I am surprised to see that an air-rifle of this price can be so accurate ! I am writing the pros. & cons. of the rifle :

Pros:

It is priced only Rs. 2000/- ex-factory at Kidderpur, Kolkata.

The rifle-stock is made with good quality wood.

It is powerful. The pellet entered and exited cleanly through a Castrol mobil-can (made of thick plastic) from a distance of about 20 yards.

Its accurate. About 1.5” grouping from 10 meters with ordinary pellets. (sorry could not take the picture, will try next Sunday).

Full size air-rifle. 45.5” long with 19” barrel.

Cons:

The air rifle is too heavy.

The under-lever cocking requires too much effort.

The pellet could not penetrate a piece of wood of apprx. ½ ” thickness.

Trigger is hard like any other low cost air-rifle which hampers the accuracy. Trigger is not adjustable.

Could not measure the FPS as I have no chronograph machine.

Overall this Jimy under-lever air rifle is value for money.

Please see the yellow page for the contact info of the manufacturer.

Build quality certainly seems nice. How is the accuracy ? Any idea on fps of the pellets ?

Hi!,

Pls advise the other underlever models available with this supplier, do they also have side levers like RWS 52/54. If U can provide their website or email id would be great. New light aertworks Jodhpur also makes under lever rifles. Have ordered one once it comes in will tell about the performance etc.

Hi Lawman,
very good review so to say, as this gun gives 1.5" grouping with odinary pellet, that's great. i can assure you that the grouping can be reduced to 1" by either mastershot wadcutter or may be with gsmith pellets.in case you are interested to reduce the grouping more, you need to do a little gunsmithing in respect of trigger by welding a small nut infront of the tigger on the outside wall of the cylinder thus screwing the trigger backward to a level where it feels tolerable.Pl mind this will enhance slipping of the trigger if pushed too much backward.

Post some pics of the groupings. The trigger should affect the accuracy. Good to see many people trying out Indian made rifles other than IHP
