Which airgun to buy for $200

Post by swordfish123 » Sun Oct 11, 2009 9:36 pm

Hi Guys,

I am planning to buy an .177 cal airgun for casual plinking. My budget is around $200 plus and minus $30.

Here are the ones i have zeroed on

Diana RWS 34P

Mendoza RM-600

Gamo CFX

I am also looking for a cheap scope. Leapers 3-9x50 scope for $50 and a one piece mount fits my bill.

I am slightly inclined towards the Gamo CFX as its an underlever and as per the review seems to be very accurate. But heard the newer Gamo CFX has a different trigger assembly (which is no better than the older one), but now the GRT III trigger cannot be installed on them.

I guess most of you here would recommend the Diana RWS 34P. The German Engineering cannot go wrong and will certainly be reliable and stand the test of time.

Never really heard of Mendoza. So looking for someone to comment on that.
Please do recommend some other guns in this price range apart from the above which are good.

This is what i would like to know.
1) Which one is the best value for money. I am also looking for reliability. This is where i doubt the Gamo.
2) What is AO in scope? Is it required for ranges to which these guns are effective.

PCP is way out of my budget. Was thinking of buying a Discovery with a pump for $399. But with shipping its out of my budget. So no PCPs for now

Then all sub $200 you got to tune it. That does mean, changing seal and spring and some internals to get a sweet shooter.

All diana has reputation for barrel drop and heavy gun. There is nothing extra you will expect from German engineering for rws34 except less machine marks. I read somewhere Panther is getting manufactured in China otherwise this is a good shooter. Perhaps you can think of going for B26 or CFX. One thing I would like to point out, CFX won FT competition once against all giants.
