My first PCP set up

After a long period of waiting, searching, trying out various models, I finally caved in some time ago and bought my first ever PCP....a regulated FX Cutlas in 0.177

It took me a good few months more to complete the set up, since I realised this would be a different beast than the usual fire and forget springers I had been used to. So, in comes an FX pump, followed by a MTC viper, and finally a Harris bipod.

I am too old to be a Jack Ryan/Vasiley Zaitsev enthusiast. I quite like the feel of wood, and a good, eye pleasing sporter stock.

So, why then, Socrates asked , did you buy this airgun at all?

i. The weight: much lighter than wood, the part skeletonised butt is functional while keeping the weight down. My second choice, the venerable HW100, seemed heavier every time I picked one up.
ii. The biathlon cocking lever:

....I found much easier to work than the others.
iii. Variable power: a three power setting, helped me switch between indoor and outdoor work, and conserves air.
iv. I live a few minutes drive from Ben Taylor, master of all things FX.
v. I got a good offer for a brand new gun from someone who was selling it because he wanted to buy another Cutlas, in FAC. This, cemented the decision, because like any Hindustani worth his salt, the smell of a bargain is the sweetest smell of all

As for shooting...it performs as any honest, hardworking PCP should. Smooth, and surgically accurate.

FX also do a wooden stock as an accessory.

Maybe next year
