Gsmith (gumark) pune is about to launch its own air rifle by end of june 2009. Recently i visited the shop and they said that it will be available soon for sale. The Price they quoted for a .22 calibre airrifle( what i was told) will be Rs 14,000(INR) with a muzzle velocity of 800fps. They claimed that the range of the rifle will be upto 90 meters which i found hard to digest as IHP air rifles with almost same muzzle velocity are of 35 meter range.

If anybody have any such info then please share.

Guys, I think we must wait and see before expressing our own opinions; for you never know, who is to become what in this wide world. How about bombarding them with mails and encouraging them? Praises work wonders and it might prove good this time as well.

Its nice to be optimistic but pkjeetesh has spent close to Rs. 20000/- on the Gunmark G350 and trying to make it work as advertised. His nightmares with the Gsmith's "new" air rifle are quite well documented here so do help yourself in the Airgun section.

And if they really do come up with a very good locally made air rifle with or without our mails and encouragement, then how will they sell their Diana's at inflated prices ?

If you follow all the advice available here to tune an IHP 35 in .177 you will get pretty close to those specs at half the price and stay legal.

Please appreciate that a .22 air rifle doing 800fps with a 14 grain pellet will give 20.3ft lbs which may be crossing legal limits and is a very impossible Indian engineering achievement.

Here is some un-asked for advice. Use the money for something better.

Ok, that way; all right, I agree with you Sharad. I also asked them the price for a beretta 92fs co2 .177 but 30K is what they are asking for it, a full 14k more than the original price including shipping and handling. What is the price that I should pay, at the most?

Regards,

Sanjiv,

Very likely what you have is an exception. Its still not worth paying 14000/- for a .22 springer using leather washers and oil to boost fps (and eventually ruin the gun).

Rottlord and All,

Just to clarify, I have nothing against the Gsmith folks nor do I know them personally or have been duped by them at anytime. Its just an expectation on my part that we should get what we pay for and the product should work as advertised.
