HW77K.22-A Box o' Truth test
Posted: Fri May 08, 2009 8:04 am
We all are familiar with the ''Box of Truth'' (http://www.theboxotruth.com/) where the genial elderly gentleman keeps blasting things with assorted guns and ammunition. Being a rare off day coupled with an even rarer sunny English sky and having nothing else to do, I decided to do a similar(completely pointless exercise) test in my private range using plastic 4pint milk cans,my Weihrauch HW-77K in .22 and a box of H&N Field & Trophy pellets. The 77K makes a theoretical 12lb of energy.
I placed four plastic milk cans filled with water in line at about 18-20 metres from where I was shooting.
As I was about to commence the test, the friendly neighbourhood feline decided to be a witness to the proceedings.
I had to convince her that her presence was not very opportune at that moment and highly distracting.
With the nosey kitty out of the way, onto the test then. The first shot pierced the first can completely, pierced the second can but failed to exit.I wasn't expecting the twenty metre geysers like when Roy Weatherby was testing his .300 Weatherby Magnums but there wasn't any visible disturbance to the cans. The water just dribbled slowly out.
I took the next shot from one foot in the hope that the pellet may pierce at least another can.Surprisingly, it was a repeat of the exact same results. The pellet failed to penetrate the exit wall of the second can.
Next,I lined up all four cans without water against a wooden backstop and shot from the 18-20 metres distance. It completely pierced the four cans but managed little else after that.It just dropped after hitting the wooden plank behind.
You can see the pellet.
If you look carefully, you can see the two depressions on the can on the right. It was third in the line.
That's all folks for now. Now, off with your comments/observations.
