Silicone oil for Airgun washers (synthetic)

For those of you who have guns with synthetic washers - IHP included.
Silicone oil is a good recommendation - one drop into the chamber OR one drop smeared on the washer during routine maintenance will help a lot.

Silicone oil has a very high flash point and so will not Cause dieseling easily (do not over oil)

Silicone oil plays a useful role in gas powered airsoft guns where it is used to lubricate the rubber gas seals in gas blowback guns without degrading them as carbon-based oils would, as well as lubricating the moving parts of the guns.

Sniper,

The problem is that there is no way to lay your hands on it except for importing it.
I would be really happy to learn that a local source was available. Would you know of such a manufacturer?

IIRC eons ago a member here had mentioned that silicone oil is used in general maintenance of photocopier machines - a reliable & regular source could be as close as the local photocopy shop...

I use silicone oil in my Ricoh printer at office. It is also called as fuser oil and is used in color printers. This oil is supplied by the printer company under service contract. I was wondering if this oil can be used in my National 35 ?

Guys

Silicone oil is nothing but automatic transmission fluid which B B Pelletier ( Tom Gaylord of pyramid air waves ) recommends .
In india two types are available one is the dexron type which is preferred the other is the f type fluid which also chalta hai
There is a long writeup about silicone oil in the pyramid air blog

available at all car dealers who sell power stearing oil as that is the most common application in india

Correct Doc but the problem is that our atf oil has some additive as I have had quite a few o-rings spoilt by it, when I had a Crosman pump rifle. Have you used it? Could you tell me if there is a safe brand to buy, it would save me opening up the valve of my air rifle if you could.

Well as of now the only source i see is like Dev said importing it. Locally I have no idea and am actually looking out for some good tried and tested alternatives.

Sniper and others, Silicon grease is what is recommended. I use FWB which is in a collapsable tube and was available with Chandrakant Shah. in Mumbai. One tube will usually last a life time.

Well dev

I went and had a look at the boffle in my workshop
It says Mak ATF A dexron I & II complaint
I have been using this for a year now in My match izzy , The tau 7 ,Ihp co2 pistol IHP cadet rifle and then also in my Diana 23 , 25 & 27 ,crosman Pellgun 101 , 760 2200 and benjamin streak .

Preaviously I used to use molygrrease misxed with engine oilo and had a lot of blowouts after lube
have not been having any problems of late except for the brown residue from the co2 cylinders . But cant guarantee anything in the Indian market .

maybe still need to experiment some more

Hi Sagar,
The last time was in 2005 and it cost Rs 500/- for the branded Fienwerkbau grease. I feel the price is more to brandiing but I can't take a chance on pistols/rifles which cost a bomb and hence blind faith.
To tommys and IHP s , I use regular silicon oil/grease near the seals and it has worked fine. I got mine from the copier service guys. A photo film can of it cost about Rs 50/- and it still works. The other brand you can look for is Wurth which is German and imported into India by a co. in Mumbai. Most Tools and Trades stores stock them. Different viscosities are available depending on the appication. ..... Shankar
