why are the prices quoted in the forum for most airguns so high? nothing seems to be below 80k when the import with even 35% duty and postage should only be 28k for a 400 dollar air rifle. could some one enlighten me

Ace Doc,

I assume you are establishing that none of the items offered in this forum are below 80K irrespective of the actual cost of import and normal margin ( as per you). This is not correct.

To answer your question ( answered in detail elsewhere by Abhijeet also), first ask yourself why the prices of firearms (particularly foreign makes) sold in India are always very high compared to their actual cost ; remembering that all firearms in India are not sold in IFG forum.

You will get your answer.

But my question is why people pay Rs. 80000/- for an item of real value of Rs. 28000/- ? Importing airguns is now passe ; isn't it ?

In India no body can afford to sell at reasonable margin/prices. If A sells an item costing Rs. 20000/- to B at Rs. 30000/- only, what is the guarantee that B won't immediately sell it to C at Rs. 80000/-. If profit has to be made, let it be made by A.

Well some of the air rifles are expensive to begin with firstly, secondly the postage is now $100 plus minimum. Thirdly importing it yourself is easy and yet it isn't also. Then people would also like to make a profit. So those wish to buy and have the means to do so, will.

But it's also true that over priced articles don't sell anyway. You can always buy your air rifle direct fromany manufacturer to save on costs, just need patience and grit to do it.

Ace_Doc,

Pardon my saying so and this is not directed at you, people do not want to go through the hassle of importing something.

Importing an air rifle

Step 1-Get membership of a rifle club(district/state/national)

Step 2-Place an order for a .177 air rifle/pistol

Step 3-Reply to the notice of the Foreign Post Office

Step 4-Post about getting your air rifle here

People want to avoid Steps 1-3 and jump to Step 4 and when they have to pay more than the prices that they see on the net, they crib.

As long as the seller makes a fair profit for his troubles (see steps 1-3) it should not bother any one.

If some one does not like the selling price of goods(air rifles/pistols/pellets/pumps/slings....) that can be imported, they can go through steps 1-3
