Hi everybody this is my first post to this forum and this is the time to introduce myself. I m Dinesh Pathoi age 31 from Uttarakhand. Till now I m using IHP 35B model for shooting & plinking for last 14 years. Now i want to puchase a powerful PCP with 30+ FPE in .177 caliber. I m a registerd member of Deharadun institute of Shooting & Sport affiliated to Uttarakhand Rifle Association. Can someone help me in selecting PCP air rifle and how to import from topairguns.com USA. I read in earlier post that one IFG member (p_sarkar) imported Beeman HW 77 carbine from topairguns.com. If he is reading this, pls help me to get one. My top preferences are Air Force Condor, Evanix AR4 and Sumatra 2500. Plese let me know which one is better for me. I can afford up to 50K for gun + hand pump.

Tuktuk,

I wouldn't bother with anything over 15 to 16 ft.lbs. if the calibre is .177".

A .177" calibre pcp at approx. 15 ft.lbs. will give you a pretty flat trajectory, relatively more shots per fill and above all a wide selection of pellets to choose from.

I have no personal experience of the rifles you mention, barring a brief play with the Condors sibling - the Talon and whilst it has its good points I wouldn't buy it if it was to be my only pcp air-rifle.

For what it's worth, here's what I would advice - Do not be hung up on power. Look at products from a manufacturer with a good track record and do not discard the option of buying a top of the line spring piston airgun.

I am deliberately not going to name any particular models because I do not want to influence your decision and I would like you to visit a few websites, learn what is available and then come back with a shortlist.

Manufacturers you should consider (in no particular order and disregarding your budget for the moment) are Falcon, Air Arms, Theoben, FX, BSA, Steyr Sportwaffen, Daystate and Weihrauch.

Excellent advice by Mack The Knife.

Just adding to it... Dont get a Weihrauch PCP if you are planning to use it in India. The HW100 in all its variations has a few problems with power levels going up and down in hot weather. Moreover it is unregulated & as heavy as a railway slipper. But very very accurate (when the weather suits it :D ) & well engineered (with good care will last a life time).

Look for a PCP that is regulated. Most high end PCPs have match grade barrells and are pellet fussy! Consider that as well. And good pcps (almost all of them) dont have open sights, which means you have to get a scope. Gun is just 65 to 70% in accuracy the rest is the scope (leaving out the shooter). Most good scopes ( Swarovski, bushnells etc) are pricier than the guns themselves. So you have to strike a balance between the gun & scope. Then you have to think about reliability as importing spares consumes time & money (a lot of it).

To make life easire for you, one info I can give with assurance.... go for a webley/FX pump. Goes upto 250 BAR (which is around 3625psi.... a car tire is inflated at around 30 psi) and is maintainence free unlike the BSA/Hills pump(requires filter change and goes upto only 220 bar). I found the latest 4 stage, 2 gear FX pump excellent to use! The 3 stage is also better than Hills pump.

If you are importing it then you need a hard case which will also cut into your budget.

Think of gun, scope, pump, hard case, freight cost.

Tuktuk,
My name is Siddhardha and I am also an airgun enthusiast currently living in Florida. I shoot field targets and I won two Benjamin Discovery rifles, One RWS Hammerlin 850 and 4 custom crosman pistols.

If you are looking among Air Force Condor, Evanix AR4 and Sumatra 2500, each one of them has a different purpose and utility.

Sumatra 2500
-----------------
Someone was kind enough to let me shoot few round with this rifle. I shot a .25 caliber. Build quality, design and looks very out of airgun league. Sumatra looks like a real gun and shoots like a .22 caliber rifle. Target towards small game and bird hunting. Not really a target rifle. Stock alignment and dual air chambers makes it more a hunting rifle than a target rifle.

Costs around $600 US for rifle and pump.

Evanix AR4
-------------
A very good all rounder. Never shot one but did read few posts on this gun. Great for target shooting with tumbhole and raised cheek support. Small game hunting is great with this rifle.

Costs around $850 for complete package.

Airforce Condor
------------------
One thing you have to be aware of airforce rifles. They are not really well designed to shoot hand held (atleast for me). Good range and power. Great with a bipod or shooting sticks. Very accurate.

Costs around $650 for complete package.

It is important to find out what the primary purpose of your rifle will be. you can make a decision based on that.

Good luck;
