Worth going for Tommy air rifle ?

Post by muthu » Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:26 am

Hi all,
This is arun, from south india.
while searching to buy a new air rifle (within rs. 8000), came across tommy air rifle made by Tom Industries, Kolkatta.
It had the following pamplet attached to it.

model wheight length Range Description
(kg) (inches) (meters)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
400 4.5 47 90 side lever
350 4.5 48 90 under lever
300 4 48 80 telescopic
250 4 48 80 pellet attachment
150 4 48 80 heavy powerful

the shop keeper had only the 150 model currently.
is it worth going for this rifle, please suggest me with some details about this company.

Thanks.

Arun,

Stick to the IHP airguns. They are the best among all Indian made ones.

Thanks a lot for your suggesstions.
Yes i visited a store to get an IHP.

But how to differentiate weather the stock at the shop is a new one or a decade old ?
because these are not fast moving items.

is there any change, that if any new changes made to the gun by the gun manucfature within 6 months,
will not be reflected in the stock at the shop.

So, how can i solve this problem ?

thanks

Do not Worry the older version of the IHP 35B and 25 are better than the newer ones when compared to quality so if you get one which is decade old and still in condtion like new than you are lucky i say :D

Cheers

Dont go for Tommy!!i got one!

actually my dad gifted me one, and it $ux! :(
The barrel has gotten loose! i.e. after loading when u straighten the barrel, it tends to go down one notch!

Greatly affects accuracy! cuz even 2-3mm barrel fall here = huge target miss!

I myself will be buying IHP gun soon!

My tommy 0.22 cal was awesome too!! i had coupled it with a scope and actually made it a perfect rifle with awesome accuracy!

my probs started after barrel loosening due to the repeated reloading!! :( I checked around and no screw seemed to tighten the barrel etc. :(

Quality wise they are good! mine has a rifled barrel too! didn't know that rifling existed in pellet guns too!

Cant these guys build a Bolt-action 0.22!? that would be like ultra reliable!

I am afraid just scoping a rifle doesn't make it a sniper rifle. There are a lot of media personnel who quickly label any nut with a scoped rifle shooting innocent bystanders from a water tower as a sniper. Kinda disgraces the dedicated army and police/NSG sniper teams who spend years earning that tag.

Just wanted to say that after scoping that rifle + adjustments! accuracy on it was amazing until the barrel locking went kaput! :(

The Tommy of today is not what it used to be. Stick to IHP, it does improve with time

Yash,

Sorry to contradict you. Recent IHP stuff is nothing to be proud of either.
Muthu check out AK Agni make. If AK made .177 models, I'll happily ditch my new IHP for it

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Manish, its a case of choosing between the lesser evil. I was just comparing the IHP and Tommy. Of the 2, IHP is better, though not great!

Thanks every one for all your suggestions.

shot non stop around 80 pellets.

one doubt, does the rifle get effected, if we shoot continously without leaving gap ?
