Hello all,
Every New Shooter mostly starts with Air Rifles as his First Weapon, but Here in India the shooter faces a whole lot of Problems which leave him either dejected or helpless, many aspects are left unanswered. . .
Even small jobs/action/alterations need a lot of search.
Some Most common issues for a beginner:-
1) Where can I get a Match Butt / Who will modify the existing Butt ?
2) If my Rifle is shooting erratic how to check "Barrel Trueness" ?
3) Who / Where do I get minor adjustments done ?
4) How do I judge, the person handling/repairing the Weapon is Trained ?
5) Where/How do I obtain Target Papers, if my place has No shooting clubs ?
6) How do I know which pellet is best suitable for my Air Rifle ?
7) Who/Where will I get to learn the basic techniques of Target shooting ?
8) If I am Good in Pistol shooting, & I don't have a WEALTHY Background,
Does that mean the END of Road to my shooting skills ?

I humbly request all you respected members of IFG to kindly guide me on these issues. . .
Thank You all...
Regards

Hello Sagar,

Welcome to IFG. Let me try to answer your question this way.

Some Most common issues for a beginner:-
1) Where can I get a Match Butt / Who will modify the existing Butt ?
Ans : Why do you need a match but? If you are trying to modify an Indian made airrifle to use at competition level, forget it! I doubt it would make any difference in the performance of the airgun.

2) If my Rifle is shooting erratic how to check "Barrel Trueness" ?
Ans : Fix up the airgun on a vise and try shooting at a target at say 10 yards.. Does the pellet strike at where the sights were ligned up?? - There!

3) Who / Where do I get minor adjustments done ?
Ans : Minor adjustments to what? Sights? Trigger? Spring? Piston? Barrel? Stock?

4) How do I judge, the person handling/repairing the Weapon is Trained ?
Ans : Best bet is to ask him for a reference. It's something like this... When you take your car/bike to the mechanic and you dont know anything about cars/bikes?? I guess you could judge a lot by the kind of business he attracts. If he is good he has a lot of customers!

5) Where/How do I obtain Target Papers, if my place has No shooting clubs ?
Ans : for target papers etc.. try indianshooting.com or maybe capapiesports.com

6) How do I know which pellet is best suitable for my Air Rifle ? Ans : Ballistic data of indian made pellets is unavailable if not downright impossible! There is absolutely no uniformity/standardization of pellets or airguns by any indian airgun/pellets manufacturer. Best Idea is to findout by trial and error!

7) Who/Where will I get to learn the basic techniques of Target shooting ?
Ans : Try to join a local club. Make some friends! Its easier to learn at the range through some friends than reading. On the other hand, maybe online forums like this one could also reap rich dividends. Try Pilkguns for online reading material

If I am Good in Pistol shooting, & I don't have a WEALTHY Background,
Does that mean the END of Road to my shooting skills ?
Ans : IF you want to think so, IT IS even if you are from a WEALTHY Background.

Regards
Jonah

Hi sagar,
well i m also a learner of this sport but i can answer one of your answers.
#6.You will have to try out different brands of pellets and even different variety of same brand.
every rifle has good performance with a typical pellet type & this varies with different pieces of same brand of rifles.so, you will have to check and shoot 5-10 shots with each and stick to the one with with best groups.
also post which rifle you have so that members will be able to help you better.
