Here’s my current ‘Boy’s Toy’-
The Beauty- BSA Superten 10 shot PCP in .22 FAC
The Beast- MTC Viper 3-12X44mm scope with side focus, lit reticle, aluminum flip-up covers. This is easily one of the best scopes around- crystal clear picture- sharp from edge to edge; smooth knobs easily lockable and very convenient to reset the zero. Rangefinding is quite easy with magnification set at 12X- the image comes into sharp focus with a smooth turn of the large focus wheel- the reading on it visible through the gap in the mount is the distance to he target!
A Fenix E20 light is attached to the scope with a 30mm to 3/4” clamp. This is in a position to allow easiest possible access to the on/off button and also clear the beam from the scope/gun. All knobs can be read from the shooting position without any interference by the torch.
Some ideas I’ve used to make the setup as effective as possible-
The pellet tin is lined with foam all around to prevent noise and damage to pellets in field use.
The trajectory/aiming points on the SCB reticle at different ranges have been printed and pasted on the front flip up cover, so that it can be seen while aiming.
In case it gets spoilt, there is a backup copy on the inside of the rear flipup cover!
The combination is superb- pellet on pellet accuracy at 75 yards, and great groups at 100 yards despite the wind!
Some observations-
As mentioned in my post on how to mount a scope, the aiming points other than the centre of cross will NOT remain consistent when magnification is changed- the points remain true at only one magnification. In this case, I’ve used 5X. For longer ranges, I’ve marked one aiming point for 100 yards at 10X.
Any comments and tips for improving the setup are welcome.
