Indians For Guns

Hi everyone. I'm a brand new member, and only resident in India for two years so far. I grew up shooting rimfire.22s and 410, 20 and 12 bore shotguns in the English countryside. I also owned and shot countless air rifles over the years, which brings me to my topic.
Since living in India, I've purchased two Indian made air rifles, a National 35 and a gun from Kolkata, from a company called UTA. Both guns are in .22 and I use them with a red-dot and 4-12 X 42 scope to shoot targets and rats. I find the UTA gun far more accurate and reliable than the supposed 'National' air rifle. I also find the UTA rifle quieter and smoother cocking, important factors when sniping vermin.
Aren't there any decent PCP guns available here, though? The last air rifle I had in the UK was a super10, by BSA. Now that was a good ratting gun! Magazine fed, shrouded barrel, and enough power to ensure clean kills everytime. And now I'd love to get my hands on something like that, but don't see anything at all available. Can members of rifle clubs import something like the super10? Can anybody help me out here guys? We've got vermin issues here in Goa and I need the right tool for the job:)

Welcome aboard Sol. Hope you have a great time on IFG. Imported airguns are available from time to time in India. But the prices will most definitely shock you. Rifle club members can now import airguns in .177 free of duty and taxes. You could import one yourself if you are a member. Next best thing would be to ask someone coming down from abroad to carry back one with them. An airgun in .22 can be brought back this way. This route will have it's own hassles though. There is lots of information about importing guns through courier and also on carrying them back. Refer to the posts before taking a decision. All the best.

Why don't you simply bring a nice air-rifle back whenever you go home for a trip? Or if someone you know is coming down from there... Would give you more choice and also save you a pretty penny...

You could try out another pneumatic Air Rifle made by National, which should be in the price range of 8K to 10K...

PCP guns are in the factory design boards.. and have been there for quite some time ... might take a bit more time to get into production... Check out our other threads on this.

TenX the National Pneumatic with a max MV of 500 fps in .177 cal may not be the ideal tool for pest control... from Sol's post, it would seem that's what he is looking to use it for...

Right there.. I assumed Sol only wanted something more silent to load and shoot (Did'nt want to wake them rats )

You guys are on the ball! I do need to reload quietly and I also worry about leaving the gun cocked for so long.
BTW, would anyone like to see photos of a couple of recent 'Super rats' I've bagged? The last one must have been about 3 kilos! A beast!
Think I'll plough on with the UTA rifle. So far this little Indian gun has dispatched several times its own weight in vermin, so it's paying its way:)

Luckily they don't have super-powers, TenX, or I'd be in some serious trouble. I did give them a repreive though, throughout the Ganesh Festival period, in honour of their special place in the fable.
Now however, we're taking the war to them once again:)
Couldn't I join the ranks of professional rat-exterminators I hear operate in the big cities here? I have a PAN card, so I could pay whatever taxes were levied:)
We should organize and start offering our services. There must be literally thousands and thousands of small, rapidly moving targets available in places like Kolcata, no?

Maybe in Kolcutta as well as most other cities in India. Actually, I have seen three basic categories of the urban rats. One is the small lighter colored one, which is supremely fast, eats almost everything, nibbles at absolutely everything, and is probably there in every urban house- the Domestic Rat.
Next is the larger variety called the Street Rat/Village Rat, found mostly in outskirts, a favorite of rat snakes, will nibble at everything, and grows to pretty big sizes. A little darker than its city cousin.
And lastly, the Bandicoot, which is found mostly in sewers and drains. Large dirty piglets and sometimes scare dogs too

The Domestic Rat is known more for house damages, while the Street Rat for their capacity of mass destruction of field growth and stores...

A Pied Pipers club of IFG may not be such a bad idea, after all.

BTW, 'KA' is for Karnataka

My neighbouring state! What a small country! If any of the rats on my wanted-list hightail it across the border, you will have jurisdiction, and the right to shoot them on sight:)
Are you a fellow rat-sniper? Have you seen 'Sniper Taffy' on Youtube? He's a pro, with his Logun s16 and nightvision. There are a few of us out there, quietly culling the rats. It's a thankless task, and quite possibly futile, like painting the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Still, I do like a clean headshot before breakfast. Sets me up for the day.

Its amazing. There is no recoil and shooting using a scope is really cool. I have unfortunately never shot using a scope

How do they see the rats eyes in the dark ?
