Hi All,
Although I have been visiting this site numerous times, i joined only today.
I would like to know if there are any air rifle shooting clubs in Bangalore. i have already searched for the info in this site but got a link to non existing site (
www.ksra.in). Can any member guide me?
I have been shooting my dad's old Diana air rifle since i was a child, but only targetted bottles filled with water. I am not sure if i can use the rifle for some serious plinking even though i have managed to hit many bottles. From forum discussions i have learned that, i would be better off starting with rifles by National, IHP etc. On searching for available vendors for the said air rifles, i found a listing for M/s Bangalore Armoury Agency located in Sri Narasimharaja Road. Unfortunately, i dont know where this road is.
Can any bangalorean help by mentioning any landmark near the place ?

Terribly sorry that ksra.in is not up. I will look into this immediately and have it back on the net.
Meanwhile...
Keep plinking. Read other articles on air rifle shooting on this forum, regarding buying one and starting off.

There is one more shop called Kovi Sop in JP Nagar, if you know that area. Address is:
#1694,17th Mn,5 Cross2 Phase, J. P. Nagar, Bangalore78
Ph: 26588485
CP: Ganapathi
Bangalore armoury is located near City Market. Its opposite the fly-over on the road that connects Town-Hall to City Market. Its not so hard to find either.
Please PM any queries you may have about joining KSRA (Karnataka State Rifle Association). I shall clarify them to you, in case I cannot get ksra.in running by then.
.. and WELCOME to IFG dude

Hi Tenx,
i called Mr.Ganapati, referred your name

which one shud i go for ? model 25/ 35 ?
By the way, i have sent you a PM about KSRA.

Hi
I have replied to your PM some time back.
Mod 25 is a shorter version of the mod 35.
Both are basically the same. It would be best for you to check out a few pellets in both, to see which of them goes along well with your body structure (height/arm-length/etc).
I would personally prefer the MOD 35, but it is you who is shooting, and would be best off checking them both.

Zenbon.... If your old Diana is working fine, you may not need to get a new IHP. If you are joining KSRA, why dont you just wait for a while and check out the IHPs already at the club. If you like them, and prefer them over your Diana, you can buy one. We can also meet and check your Diana to see if she will fare well enough...

Tenx,
If the Diana is up to it, i will be very happy indeed.
The problem is the rifle is in coimbatore and i would have to bring it here.
i will share my experiences with it so you will have a rough idea of its capacity. The rifle has been with my dad for more than 15 years i guess. it is a break barrel spring piston type of air rifle. i started using it under supervision from my dad, after he drilled the basic gun safety into my head. We mostly used master shot pellets.
i have used it to shoot mineral bottles filled with water(pretty amateurish i agree
), i usually land 3 out of 5 shots, shooting from around 30 feet away(no mounted scope). Will it be good enough for target practice ?

'Good' enough is hard to say... but its surely more than enough
Factually speaking, you shooting 3 of 5 pellets into a mineral water bottle may be owing to either wrong aim or bad gun.
But you have begun, and begun well
Can you tell me how much of penetration the pellet made in the bottle? Did it just hit and fall, make a hole, or pass thru the bottle. We can know the power the old lady still has.
And shooting is a skill that you gain over time. No one is a born ace, and everyone, even at the highest level, still make mistakes.
Having said that, I would get along with a bit more of plinking, if I were you. Get to know more about guns, aiming, etc, and who knows what tomorrow has

The pellets have never fallen, not sure though. but most of the time i could find the pellets either in the bottle or clean through it, making an exit through the other side. i have also found that my shots were more accurate and consistent if i rested the barrel on any support.
As for my aim, i have no idea. i usually fiddle with the sight (am not sure if that is what it is called) on a trial and error basis having no idea of grouping or zeroing
i usually shoot by my Dad's principle that if the target, the round headed thing at the end of the barrel and the V-shaped dent on the sight are in a straight line, my chances are good!

Your dad is abs right, if he is talking about the 'fore-sight' which is at the end of the barrel. The older guns had a small round head, which is what you describe.
I guess you would only need to know a lil more about aiming (Sighting is mentioned in detail in of of the links I provided you above), and your Diana should do well for now. If it passes thru a bottle filled with water, it should suffice.
It will be nice to also shoot the Diana onto a thick paper/board and see what kind of holes it makes. If it is round and the paper is cut well, then no complains. If it punches a hole that is not round and has paper shreading, then it may have a problem. Sometimes, if there is no rifling (No spin induced in the pellet when it passes thru the barrel of the rifle) the pellet may hit sideways tearing off the paper is odd shapes. This I very much doubt if the pellet goes thru the bottle. then again, if it does not, all the time, then there may be a problem with your Diana's spring resulting in inconsistent velocity. It may also have worn out washers, because of which there is air pressure leakage.
Anyways.. if you are not getting it to Bangalore, let it remain in Coimbatore for now.
Go ahead with your original plan of buying a new IHP

Thanks for the info Tenx.
i have certain doubts that I've listed below.
Is the shooting range open to non members? If so, what are the fees?
How long can a use a rented air rifle?
What are the annual sub.scription fee, registration fee for an ordinary member?
