Hi hotshot,

Forget it man. Be cool. I too have had such an experience when I bought an UTA (27 model) for 2,800 K some 4 years ago. When I enquired with other shops they all told me it cost only 1,500 K. However, that was a good piece and would never let me down. I still use it though the main spring has been replaced thrice. Go ahead and use the IHP. That is regarded as the best among all Indian springers.

Regards,
Ebenezer

Hotshot... we all know s**t happens...
I have also run into a few who have paid abnormal prices.. so you are not alone.
Anyway... there may also be a disparity between different states.

Hi Hotshot,
Anyway, since you brought the gun now - Enjoy shooting with it. Post what groupings you get with it and its consistancy in shooting.

Well. If you havent used it. Sell it back to him for 2-300 Rs. less and then pick up one at a normal rate. That way you still have a profit.

If not.

Just enjoy the IHP :-)

thanks everyone. i guess i will just enjoy shooting with it now. they did give me a free box of pellets with it though ...ha ha

i am not an expert on guns but i felt the finish was not great. especially the holes where the stock screws on to the main gun.

i am really new to serious air rifling so i do not exactly understand what you mean when you say - Post what groupings you get with it and its consistancy in shooting ? Maybe i should just look up the forum to understand that.

i did have a 0.177 air rifle when i was 10. was gifted to me.

thanks again everyone.

Firstly, try to get some pics of the 'holes' you mentioned. Upload it in some free photo-hosting site (like Photobucket.com, etc) and paste the links here. It will help other ascertain the damage if any.
Next.. here is some tit-bit information about the shooting terminology:
Grouping - how close you can 'group' a certain number of shots on the target. This is irrespective of where they punch the target, but is a measure of the distance between the two shots that are most distant from each other - spread of the bullets.
So you shoot something like 5 shots on a target sheet, then see the maximum distance within which all the five shots are placed.. This is grouping. It will decide how constant your aim and the weapon is. If the grouping is tight (which means the distance between the two furthest shots are very less), it will mean you have a good aim and a good gun to match. If not, if they are spread wide apart, then you need to improve your aim, or the gun may be a sad story - has a bad 'consistency' (see below)
Consistency - decides how consistent the shots are. Some guns which have very bad consistency will suddenly shoot some shots much lower than others, which may be because of a loose barrel, pressure leakage, etc. A good grouping will mean good consistency.

Now start shooting some cards and post it...

P.S - You can download cards from here and take a print out. -

Use the third target from the top for air-rifle.

Hi
I had an IHP but the rifling was rough cut. i then used some engine oil, mixed with kerosene, and some fine valve gringing paste, and shot 100 pellets into a pilliw, and found the rifling was perfect and shiny. The size was slightly enlarged, but you get oversize pellets too. The gun shot better and more accurately I found. Try it. Ashok
