Please sumone help me out...I bought a new IHP .22 cal air rifle. I spent almost the same amount on a john knibbs imported spring but since the bloody thing was small in length, wen I cock my IHP, I notice that the spring does not compress to its fullest, there are still gaps between the coils and though my rifle is more powerful dan before but I think dat I'm not able to use the full energy of the spring. Can something be done about it??

Yes. Use pre-load washers but not so many that the trigger does not cock. Remove the main-spring and drop the washers down the piston so that they sit between the front of the piston and the main-spring.

Stop butchering the English language deliberately or else you wont get a reply in future.

P.S.: Don't make the main-spring coil bound. Your emphasis should be on refinement and accuracy rather than raw power. There is only so much swept volume that an IHP can have and shoving in great big springs into it wont make it a 'magnum'.

I agree that their should be best possible equilibrium among power, swept volume to achive accuracy. One should not run after only raw power. But as he says that his gun is more powerful than before hence if he preloads the mainspring chances are that his piston head will become more heavy & will result in faster locktime. Which may result in more power which can ruin the power / swept volume ratio he is getting now. If he stacks up some washers from spring / piston guide end then I think he can maintain the ratio without increasing power.
It is just a suggestion based on my earlier improvements done on my own airguns. They were more silent, sweet & accurate to shoot with after doing this.

You have a john knibbs main spring on it i wonder if the IPH can take that kind of stress knowing its quality.

How many washers should I use??...n I'll probably be telling a gunsmith to do it..so please explain it to me again...I tell him to put some washers between the mainspring and the piston right?...but I think washers are too thin for this job as the gaps between the coils are about half a centimeters...so if I insert somethin at the back of the sprring...some solid metal tube or something which will push the spring forward and actually seem to increase the length of the spring...
I'm still learning so please excuse me if I'm wrong...

The number of washers entirely depends on the thickness of the washer. Start with two and increase by one, if the spring hasn't become coil bound.

Your gunsmith (Bobby?) should be able to source thick brass or steel washers.

As mentioned earlier, the emphasis has to be on refinement and accuracy.

You can also use your old spring, by cutting two or three coils of it using a hackshaw, and use it instead of washers, but you have to guess the exact amount of coils that need to be cut from old spring and make sure your new spring seats on it perfectly. I have used that technique on my friends .22 SDB Air Rifle (Indian make) and that perfectly done the job.

I would love to see two pieces of springs from totally different materials & design working together to make a smooth shooting air rifle with magnum power. That's just great invention must try. Have some respect to simple science & then make suggestions.

I cant use the older IHP coz the diameter of the john knibbs is so small that it easily slides into the IHP...can I use a piece of IHP model 25 spring??...Damn I'm so confused...if I cant do something 'bout it in da next 4 days I'll put the bloody spring up for sale n use a G.Smith instead...

As we just discussed on the phone- you are getting better punch than before from your IHP. You are leaving India and the guns behind in a month. Enjoy the better performance while you are here- if I were you, I wouldnt spend time figuring out the permutations- I'd just shoot!

I think you don't know what you are talking about or just can't read. What Sapta is talking about is shortening a spring to fit a particular rifle. Read carefully before airing your impudence.
