don't take skill for granted

I had been out of ammo and gas for my rifle for a while. And I had been shooting even less with my air pistol. There is an old shooter's myth that I was relying on that you stay at a certain level of shooting...etc...

And so due to usual excuses of job etc...I hadn't bothered to plink even on my roof. Normally I'd shoot about a dozen pellets every few days. But then now I thought heck I 'll just pick up the old smoke pole and be right on target.

Reality usually gets up and bites you when you stay too long in la la land. And so when we got together for HFT at Mundaire's farm, I went with a smirk on my lips. (In the before scenario I could put five pellets in one hole with iron sights at ten meters.) Now the rifle was scoped so...let me show these pilgrims how to shoot.

First off my zero was off as I had taken the scope off for a while. So I do a few shots at ten at the pellet trap and get the windage right. Still shooting three mildots high but
that's how I like it normally.

Then I go to shoot at a bottle barely 15 metres away. I snigger thru the scope, squeeze and...miss. Dang what pellets were these (great excuse normally and it confuses the new bies at times). I try again with Sid kid making rude noise (laughter is really rude on a bad day)! And I miss again...curse gsmith under my breath and hand the rifle to NM. He continues to pot the bottle easily and so does everyone else but yours truly.

So I resort to old trick take the support off a tree and manage to nick the bottle. Ha ...so there. To protect my rep I now keep letting everyone else shoot. After all that way they are too happy to keep tabs on my misses. But Daddy long ears keeps beating me with Mundaire's open sighted BSA. But its a great shooter and somehow I hit the bottle twice in a row and stop. Sid is confused but the imp shoots three times in a row and hits the bottle again and again.

I keep blaming it on beginner's luck and entice him to reach for the B&h pack. Heck yes I cheat and stoop pretty low while competing. Anyway we end for the day. I grab Kanwar's pack of pellets and decide to high tail it.

But now I'm back to plinking at home. Next time we'll see who cackles louder...

Saith the man who didn't know what scope turrets were for! Indeed Grandson you have traversed a long way and lived to speak of it...remember Tuglakabad and a .32 revolver? :-) :-) :-)

Ahh such an explosive union of man and weapon :D, I believe that ushered in a two day long bout of amnesia in good ol' SidKid.

Won't point barrel at you as we old shooters know about gun safety and never let the barrel stray unlike some long , wet behind the ears git! :-)

Thanks TenX will need some guidance from you to improve but the problem is that I have to get the range hassle sorted out and then figure out how to try for the next comp. The Delhi State is always a sleeping, lumbering giant.

Thank you Eljefe...guess the kebabs are standard right ? :-)

Ten X I have no clue at the moment how to get till there. Will need to get into a North Zone open type thingie first, which gets you to the GVM.

Unless the DSRA guys don't give us the membership, we can't even apply for any competition...
Feel like giving them a taste of RTI to shake them a bit...
