Indians For Guns

Hi,

I am going to stay in US (in Portland, Maine) for few months and wish to take back an good airgun with me while going back, please suggest me the best tips for an hassle free import:
- Brand of Airgun I can get in maine
- documents I am going to need including DGFC notifications and airgun import notice
- Can i dissemble the same and pack it in my luggage.
- any other tip

Also if somebody from the US counterparts can suggest me on the process of getting an FFL as I will be travelling back and forth to Portland for next 4 years (I have been made incharge of a IT project with TD Bank) and I just wish that if I am able to get the FFL than probably I can imagine of importing an good Arm:) when I go back for good finally.

Thare are quite a few airguns that you can choose from. Decide on the caliber first. Among the most popular airguns that you might want to buy are the Airarms prosport and TX 200 Mk3, HW77,77K and 97K, Diana 350,460 and 54. Lots more are available too. Browse as much as you can for more info and then decide. All the best in advance.

If you are getting it yourself (personal baggage)get a .22
a .177 is good if you shoot ISSF ten meter comps.

Or get a qb 78 with both the barrels or even consider a airforce stealth. Both these systems allow you to switch calibers etc.

Dev - I am getting the air gun for myself only

Right now the choices as per sugestions are:
1. Beeman R1, in .177 cal (German make full power HW-80)
2. TX 200 Mk3, HW77,77K and 97K
3. Diana 350, 460 and 54
4. qb 78 with both the barrels (.22, .177)
5. Airforce stealth

Now I will need your help in zeroing down on one, Although I have fired nearly most of the service calibers coursty of my friends in Army and Police I must admit I am novice to airguns.

Also don't forget to check out local online airgun forums for second hand deals - you can pick up some real bargains at times.

The Beeman R1/ H80K is better in .22 cal, so try and get that if possible.

The AirArms TX200 is better in .177 cal (the power difference between .22 & .177 cals isn't that much so might as well get the .177 as it shoots flatter).

I'd personally prefer the HW77K over the HW97K, simply because it gives you an option of using open sights if you so wish.

If you are planning on picking up one of the AirForce air-rifles, do get the CO2 conversion as well as the Micrometer tank. Also, try and see if you can get someone to "tune" the trigger for you - apparently the standard trigger isn't all that hot.

You have most of the great air rifles covered, just get rid of the Dianas . The qb 78 will need a paintball bottle an asa to npt adapter plus you will have to fabricate a filling adapter locally. Go for a twenty ounce bottle if you can as it will give you more fills...20 ounce is about 500 grams of co2.

the stealth will need a pump or a compressed air bottle, once you have all the gear shooting is smoother and easier than springers.

Abhijeet/Dev - Thanks for the replies. I did some surfing for gathering information and here is the conclusion:

I am doing away with break barrels as I own an IHP air gun and the effort is more at times (so will go for underlever or sidelever one). I am moving towards getting a multi shot air rifle if they are possible to import!

- I could find the Beeman R1 (and the one I could locate were the breakbarrel only) but nothing about its relation to H80K .
- The AirArms TX200 is better in .177 cal. (the ones I could locate are all marked TX200 MkIII but the cost varies from $559 to $868 please visit the link http://www.airgunwarehouseinc.com/py-174-1772.html)
- HW77K and HW97K (both are underlever single shot air rifles)
- AirForce air-rifles (three models available talon, talonSS and condor at http://www.airforceairguns.com/condor.html, would like your opinion on getting a multishot air rifle) will get the CO2 conversion, Micrometer tank as advised by Abhijeet. However I could not find stealth as suggested by Dev (Dev, please send me the link if you have)
- QB78 (is surprisingly low cost only $80 or I am looking at the wrong models at http://www.archerairguns.com/SearchResults.asp, please let me know the model to pick up and will I need some conversions to the original rifle?). Adding in Paintball bottle, ASA to NPT adapter, filling adapter, twenty ounce bottle.

Cost wise the QB78 is the cheapest while others are in the range of $500-$700, I do not have any cost restrictions at this moment and thus would request IFG friends to help me zero in on one of them (so far my choice is sidelever/underlever if single shot and co2 powered with least modification for multishots example-- AirForce Codor )

Hi,

The airfoce SS was called the stealth earlier. Yes the qb is actually quite economical. You can add an extended bulk tube to up the shots per fill. Try to get the Gold Service from Archer as then you rifle will be fool proof and get the Deluxe Qb 78 as for slightly more you get a better stock and for way less than $300.

u can also consider Hammerli / RWS 850 Air Magnum when compared to qb 78 it is mutishot and approx 150$ more but less than hw. hpa & co2 bulk tank can be added with slight modification.

Just look up a gun shop near your place for FFL information. Rest check with the airgun retailer websites pyramid air etc and you might not even need a FFL for an airgun.

For owning a gun/rifle etc confer with local police on gun ownership laws for the foreigners. We have a member here from New Hampshire on H1 and he owns quite a few.

Do ensure that you follow the local gun laws to the T be it buying, shooting or carrying the guns.

- I will be using the rifle for target practice and snap shooting.
- I already own an IHP .77 and its a effort to cock this rifle when my better half tries it

gosh Its confusing when you have loads of choices in US, I India I went IHP merely by the looks of it against other air rifles as it has even better finish than my IOF .315
