Air shotgun/ rifle

Hi Guys... I am currently living in Houston,TX,USA now doing my MS. I joined this forum when I was in HYD as a software engineer. Any how... when I was in Wal-Mart today I saw the following air-rifle/air-shotgun. It was called "GAMO Shadow Express". It was priced $149.86.
So i was thinking has anyone used this before? The advertised M.V is 725fps. So is this any good for target shooting? or am I looking at a completely diffetent type of airgun here? And the big question is... Is it allowed back home? I am planning to come to India this dec and this will make an excellent gift for my Dad( It will be something to tide over until he can come here and go Hunting
).

Hi Srikanth,
It is good Air-Shotgun only gamo makes it as per my knowledge.
It comes in both single shot & shotgun type.one of my friend have it & he told me about such thing even i was amazed when i heard about this airshotgun you canshoot both pellets & shotshells but those shotshells are very spcial.
special means they are made by only gamo you will wont get it any where else.
My friend you cannot bring .22 version here in india as it is now banned

bro forget the gamo its quality is no good go in for a German or british make they will give you good power an service for many years to come .You have a choice in the states so go for the best many mod come with interchangebale barrels ie .177,.22,.

Correction Ketan, one can still bring back a .22 with him as part of his luggage. The restriction of .177 is only for importing by post.

AFAIK there is no truly successful "air shotgun" around. The concept looks good on paper but is worthless in the field... you'd be much better of getting a proper air-rifle either in .177 or .22 - make/ model really depends on your budget, but around the ~$200 mark you should be able to pick up a decent RWS Diana...

Thanks for the replies guys.. I live in an apartment here so I cannot practise in the backyard. I have looked at a shooting range that allows Air-Guns. Once they approve my membership then I can get an air-rifle( If I buy it earlier i just cant stand the temptation..).

Heed to abhijeets advise, go for better brand and gun, on internet look up pyrmaid air and other on line services which might ship an airgun to your address. Also make sure that you comply with local local laws on handling air guns. Also buy a hard case for carrying the air gun from your apartment to the range. Its a good thing you are joining the local club members there could guide you better.

Hey srikanth,
What the gurus are saying might be true, but as far as my experience goes i've been using a Gamo shadow for the past 2 yrs in .177 cal. and am very happy with the results.

When I visited Walmart, I bought this gun, mainly owing to its looks. I tried it and then returned it the next day. It somehow lacks the punch. A nice lightweight performer, but not for those who want power and accuracy. Looks great but does not perform as well...

The Gamo Shadow in .177 cal is different from the Shadow Express .22 cal. The former is a regular air-rifle while the latter is the air-shotgun/ air-rifle...
