i have an option of getting a diana 54 or diana 350 or a national.

which one would u guys go for?

i liked the 54 coz its a recoilless sidelever rifle but i aint sure if its going to be easy to maintain.

I had the very similar discussion with Mack The Knife on the Diana 52, 54 and so on, on email.. Let me just put a copy of the same here..so that Mack The Knife doesn't have to type the whole thing again..

I would choose a Weihrauch over a Diana any day of the week. They are

well built but it has always been HWs for me. Trigger wise, the Dianas

even come close. Ditto for the rear sights. I also happen to dislike
sidelever sporters as I firmly believe in holding on to the lever or
barrel
whilst loading as a precaution, irrespective of anti-bear trap devices.

I have a HW97K in .177" calibre and would recommend it. However, my
personal
favourite is the HW77K as it has open sights and I love shooting with
them
from time to time."

Personally, I would never get a 350, for one you can buy a cheap Indian airgun and put the strongest spring available and get similar results like a 350.

There are other folks who have or have used these airguns who can better guide you.

If I am not wrong you were planning to bring Air gun from US. If this is the case then why don't you get TX200HC? According to reviews and the people who used it, it?s the best spring powered air gun available.

Hmmm may be Mack The Knife, I haven't seen one if flesh yet but If one goes by the reviews on AIRGUNBBS. It?s better than HW97 Out of the box. So what do you suggest which spring powered air gun one should get when coming back from US?

A TX200 HC would be a great choice but it sure as hell isn't the best spring pistom air-rifle available. Has the penny finally dropped?

im not getting the gun from US.
im buying it from a dealer in mumbai.
hes quoting 25k for the diana which i think is too pricy.

are the national models good enough?
does anyone have the technical specs on national air rifles?

At 25 K it's most probably second hand and quite possibly buggered. Don't touch it.

I've got a National with a Maccari spring. It is powerful but the trigger sucks. I can add a 4X bushnell scope to it. Right now I have a National spring in it. It is pleasanter to shoot than with the Maccari spring.

Ever since I got my QB78 my airgun battery is complete. If you can pick it from Delhi you can have it for Rs. 3,500 without the scope. You can have the Maccari spring(free) installed if you wish to. I don't have the patience to do it myself.

You are comparing apple with the oranges . There is no comparision between National and Diana. Foreign air rifles are a different league.

Are you sure 25K is for a new diana54?

Which imported spring, Sohail? If it's called Ox Spring don't touch this either.

It isn't just the spring that needs looking into. If you really want to make the rifle into an accurate and consistent shooter, you need to:
1) Smoothen out the ID of your cylinder (don't mirror polish it).
2) Make a matching piston washer.
3) Have a correctly machined rear spring guide and top hat.
4) Have a breach seal that actually does what it is supposed to.
5) Use the proper lubes in the right quantities in the right places.
6) Make sure your sights don't move.
7) Ensure that you use a pellet that suits your rifle best.
Ensure the crown does not have even the tiniest of burrs.
9) And last but least get your trigger sear to release at a pressure that does not promote jerking.

If the above seems intimidating, let me assure you it isn't. Take it one step at a time and you will have a rifle you will be proud off.
