Indians For Guns

Hi all,

As some of you know already, I am trying to bring in a Umarex Walther cp99 .177 air pistol and accessories via the courier/post route - without much success, it seems.

I am writing a last post on this since based on email responses received from UPS, FedEx, DHL, TNT etc. the short answer is: "NO, WE WILL NOT CARRY IT".

For those interested, I can attach the precise text of my query explaining in detail that the gun in question is a .177 air pistol, Indian rules etc. and the cos' individual email responses - but take it from me, it's down to someone bringing it in via checked baggage.

(Aside: I am now wondering if only licensed US airgun retailers - think PyramidAir.com et al - are allowed to ship airguns to India via courier. Individuals, it seems, cannot.)

Update on USPS:

USPS (US Postal Service) now needs my US contact to call the local Mailing Requirements Office to confirm their position on the subject.

My contact unfortunately has decided not to take the risk of sending the air pistol by post, under the circumstances, which totally sucks - apparently there was a case where someone in California mailed a gun to someone in India which fell into the wrong hands and led to irresponsible behavior. (I have no way of knowing if this is true, but I guess I'll have to take their word for it, for the time being.)

Looks like I'm now in for a longish wait until someone can carry the airpistol in for me...any takers among you, particularly folks based in the US?

The US contact will mail the gun to you, wherever you are, if you are coming in. Long shot, I know, but I had to ask

Grateful for any ideas/assistance and please pass this on to anyone who you think may be able to help. Naturally, expect compensation (and then some) for this yeoman service rendered. Please PM me with details.

USPS WILL ship airguns to India, they have done so in the past. Should cost you less than $50 for this...

However if you insist on referring to airguns as firearms (as per US law airguns are NOT firearms irrespective of power/ calibre), you are in for a long haul as ANY export of firearms REQUIRES an export license from the State Dept. which involves submitting things like end user certificate, import license etc. The same rule applies for the export of gun parts if gun parts exceed $100 OR an Action, Receiver, Frame, Cylinder, Barrel, Flash Hider or Military Scope is ordered.

Hence, stop referring to your airpistol as anything except as a bb/ pellet air pistol - which I REPEAT IS NOT classified as a firearm in USA (nor in India for that matter).

For shipping CO2 powerlets to India, may I suggest you get them shipped via surface post. It'll take approx 6-8 weeks to reach India, but it should be cheaper and more importantly NO airline will carry CO2 powerlets so you simply cannot use one of the expedited shipping options.

While I do not doubt the good intentions of the members here, I would not hold my breath waiting for someone here to volunteer their services for carrying it back for you... I could be wrong though, and do hope for your sake that I am! But my honest advice would be to take the USPS route and not sit around waiting for someone here to volunteer...

The 'appeal to carry' to folks here was owing to:

- a. unexpected reluctance on the part of my US contact to mail the air pistol on my behalf using USPS owing to his recent exposure to bad press about an air pistol being sent via post and ending up in the wrong hands in India.

- b. no plans by self/family/friends to visit the US in the immediate future (3 mon).

Thanks also for the suggestion re: the CO2 powerlets by surface post: will look into it.

For the record, in my email correspondence I have *not* at any time referred to the gun as a firearm, on the contrary I have endeavored to point out the fact that it is an air pistol. The USPS staffer probably visited the Umarex site off a URL in my email and freaked

but amko many here have ordered and got their guns (sorry airguns)
i also plan to order one; just waiting for a RA membership. i have recently enquired with pyramid and one flyingdragon for a qb78 and both have replied in positive for shipping to india. also if you order directly thay will worry about shipping not you. no need to deliver it to some one in US and asking him to ship it to india

just fyi, USPS has discontinued surface mail as of May 14, 2007 so sending co2 via that route is out.

the gun/accessories were purchased mid-Feb '08 owing yrs truly being seduced by a price-off deal on the gun/laser sight/shooters kit at airgundepot.com (at the time my US contact had promised to send/carry as possible, so retailer shipping to India was not a factor).

am based in pune. travel to ngp every 2 years, due to visit later this year.

How old is this episode ?

I am quite certain that Fedex ferries air rifles and pistols bought from online shops in US to India. Ditto for USPS.
As long as your paper work is in place and in order you should not have trouble with USPS.

Don't ask a friend in the US to do the legwork for you. Buy one online from straightshooters or airguns of arizona.

Shipping is USD 100 max.
