Indians For Guns

Wanted to know if any of the forum members have experience with a brand of airgun called Tommy. Its an Indian make. A friend of mine used to have it in .177 in school days long back. It used to shoot straight and the power was quite reasonable. I haven't seen this one being discussed on the forum. If anyone can suggest where to buy it from?

I had one in the 1970s, since then haven't seen many around. Now in India either you have IHP - National, which are quite good if used like a medium power rifle with imported pellets, or Meerut made stuff that is poor to average.

You betcha! It was my first air-rifle and the quality was (no idea what it is like now) far better than the IHP junk you get these days. Power was moderate - probably 8 to 10 ft.lbs. max.

It was/is made in Calcutta.

IHP isn't junk as far as the .22 rifle goes, shoots 650fps* in 22. The trigger is a little hard. Is the Tommy's trigger better or case of the first love that you can't forget .

Thanks for the replies Shahid and Mack The Knife. I am unable to find any info about the manufacturer or seller on the net. It used to sell through sports goods shops way back then. Maybe I will check with some on coming weekend.

I see... so an air-rifle is now rated by it's muzzle velocity alone, is it? I suppose factors such as consistency, accuracy, fit & finish, reliability and ergonomics matter not a jot, eh? Come on Dev, you atleast should know better.

You seem to assume that this air-rifle was long since consigned to the bin. There's no rose tinted glasses or nostalgia here. Forget about the IHP, the trigger is almost on par with MOST Dianas. And, no, I have not fettled this air-rifle in any shape or form barring a new breech seal, a piston washer and main-spring.

Whilst the Tommy is nothing to write home about, I stand by my original post about the earlier Tommy's being better built than today's IHPs.

I do not have a pic of the rifle in natural light but this should suffice for the time being.

I had one around 10 yrs back- the trigger broke within the first hour of its purchase - not to mention i was tryin to break it in (with pellets of course )
the barrel had grooves which were more like it was forced onto a smooth bore rather than the comparatively good finish that is there in a IHP.
needless to say i returned it within a few hours of getting it.

p.s. I had a Hume Pipe for seven years without mucking up. Only when I messed with the spring did things go wrong.

This is OT but a bloke on another forum is selling a Diana RWS 54 .22 for 39 K,supposedly very sparingly

used.

The photo actually was the one of you holding up a fish and your cranium is covered with a hat. I am photoshopping six hands each holding a HW air rifle. Plus the requisite malas and am making the coracle into a huge lotus flower as befitting your stature.
