Indians For Guns

Hello folks, I'm new here. I did read the etiquette and hopefully this post adheres well. I'm out to buy my first air rifle. I have shot before at shooting ranges outside India, but never really bothered about the gun. They were rentals, and I did not care. Here are my considerations:

1. Scope mount is essential. I would not want to deal with epoxy unless absolutely necessary.

2. Fairly calibrated out of factory. I would prefer if I do not have to do much adjustments except for zeroing in, right out of the box.

3. Springer.

4. Not looking to break the bank. But this seems non issue because all rifles top out at $200 range, so this one is settled. Price no bar for Indian rifle for me. But it is a factor in decision making.

5. 0.22 caliber. Not interested in going to ranges yet.

Now, here are the options as I've researched:

1. Precihole SX-100 Orion. It is 0.22, has a scope mount. I do not mind the fibre body, I actually like the looks. However some reviews about it's construction quality worried me. Are those still true? I understand Precihole stand behind their products, but breaking parts out of the box is something nobody wants to deal with. I am getting this rifle for 10,400 at Aimco. Some websites also have a really sexy military finish. Maybe Aimco does too if I contact them.

2. IHP 35 National (Wood). This is good. Does not have a mount, that is a major bummer. I've also read that it requires a lot of modifications before it is usable. Somebody mentioned on this forum a need of gunsmith and addition 3,000 bucks to get going. Any truth to that? I am getting this at 7,000 at Kovi.

3. IHP "New" 35 National (Fibre). I don't know what to make of this. The butt does seem like a scratch magnet. Some people say it has a scope mount, others disagree. It is 7,000 at Aimco.

Other options like IHP 35 PCP variant, NX-100, are out because I prefer a springer. I also understand that SX-100 could use NX-100's gas equipment?

So with all your experience, which one of these would you recommend? I live in a place where the shops are basically useless. They give a "ho jayega" or "mil jayega" response to close the sale. I gathered that they lack formal knowledge about guns. So for tweaking, I'd have to learn and fix/modify my guns. I do not mind that. But that's not something I'd want to do when I start out. I am looking for something that would work fairly well out of the box for at least a reasonable number of shots before needing a gunsmith. I want to a buy a good one because I'm advised that 0.22 is something I'd want to keep in my collection for a long time.

Any pointers would help! Also, where do you guys buy your scopes?

When buying an AR scope make sure you buy an airgun-rated scope, preferably magnum-rated! Best method to get one would be to have some Na-Raha-Indian friend to carry it for you. Else postal route is always there!

Totally. I've read a bunch of posts. The concerns I mentioned were posted by members about 2-3 years ago. These concerns haven't been discussed much since. So I was wondering if users of these guns are still facing those? Things like too much work upfront on IHP, or bad quality control in SX100.

I'm also looking into AARMA and SDB, their Hurricane 15 and ApacheSE variants.

As of now..the best Indian rifle is a Precihole.. I just purchased the nitro version. It shoots straight out of the box and has a dedicated dovetail scope mount with a stop pin. No other Indian rifle mounts a scope so well. Regards and best of luck with your acquisition

Yes I am in touch with AARMR fellows personally. The earlier problem of Hurricane making too much noise has been rectified since with a teflon rear guide. New changes are also being made routinely. Should expect the final version to be released soon. Am awaiting the same myself. You can buy it as is & order the add-on parts later or wait for a month & buy with me.
What I like about it is its inherent toughness, scope for further enhancement and power & accuracy potential.
Some people complain about its weight, polymer stock etc. I find it alright.. you can't make it durable And lightweight And cheap, all together! Trigger pull-length has been solved, new trigger is also in works. Its throwing a lot of power quite accurately & from where things are, it is only going to improve..

The Apache SE also is a good gun, offering decent performance for a low price. Has a conventional sporting stock. Many people like it more than polymer!
I didn't appreciate the looks of its internals but since I'm not the one shooting it, I ain't complaining either!

SX-100's earliest models seemed to have some barrel droop. Seems to have been fixed since. Is very light & sweet. I dislike its higher price, I suppose a 'brand name' costs money! Should you buy it, do check about which year it was built in. Old models can give trouble..

I have a personal dislike for National's quality control but since it has a huge fan following, I guess its extremely low price justifies the trouble..

Go for a NX 100 .22 for your requirement its the best fit.I own both a SX and a NX .NX packs a punch ,very balanced and if not the best around ,certainly the best in India .Its more often then not right on the money ,out of the box.

I personally feel precihole is the best bet, preferably the NX100 if you can bear the marginally extra cost. Easy to hand hold and plink with beer can sized targets even out to 35-50 yards. Despite having some really good PCPs around i sometimes prefer using the precihole purely for its fun factor.
Also, whenever we have our local airgun meets here, most air rifles are preciholes and I am yet to meet an unhappy user.

Ps. I'd take the recommendations about any air rifle with a pinch of salt when it is made by people who dont even own or have any first hand experience with the product they are recommending. Especially when the recommendations are followed with an offer to buy the said product along with them after a month

If you're keen on buying it, I would suggest buying directly from manufacturer - will save you 1000 bucks at least. Also, if you can, wait until its final version is out in market.
