ADVANTAGES/ ADDICTION OF AN AIRGUN

Hi Airgun fans,
I am slowly being drawn/ addicted towards Airguns, the people responsible are bennedose, basu, Dr. jk and Birha ji, and other airgunners on this forum.
I read somewhere that bennedose gave up his hand gun license as he could not shoot anywhere. Though I am not doing that, as I have 3 firearms on my license, But I also can't shoot any where as per the law.
I used to do a lot of shooting on my terrace (25 mtrs) and backyard usable space of 15 mtrs. There was no issue with the neighbors as the area and off chance ricochet was totally safe. Though one old retired gentleman for the neighborhood requested me not to shoot in the afternoon before 4 pm as he sleeps at that time, I promised him and did not shoot in the afternoons.
But through this forum I got scared of an accident by a freak chance and stopped shooting.

Now I feel airgunners are having the maximum fun as there is no restriction on the number of guns you own. And since no one objected to me firing firearms, I can also freak out by using my backyard as a shooting range as I understand that airguns need a 10 mtrs range only.

I have pulled out my two airguns and an air pistol to try to restore them as per the process I have learnt here and start shooting.

Regards

In a firearm starved country , restrictions on ammunitions, ARs are best choice for a shooting freak.
You are gifted by a space of 15+ mts.
Spring ARs are quite good upto 30 mtrs.
Before restoring....request you to visit Gunsmithing Sec.and follow them.

Thanks for the advise Basu,
I have tried out the guns they and are fully functional and not used much. I would have fired a total of 100 pellets or less between the two guns.
By restoration I meant the looks part like bluing, stock finish type things. These ideas also I picked up from the 'gunsmithing' section.
I am confident that once I start shooting and learn the ropes I can easily find solutions here. Even the response is quite prompt if I need advise.

Hi fellow members,

I agree Basu ji, with so many restrictions- license and ammo quota, air gun is the best choice. To be frank my parents have been liberal enough to provide me an springer air gun very young age, around 10. I have a backyard where I practiced shooting small 5ml distilled plastic bottles used for injections :) .

Now I've become lazy to use the springer. But still i cherish those fun days.

Good luck and happy shooting..

Absolutely agree with you aadhaulya, airgunning is really fun.
Even I was thinking of getting arms license for myself, but after reading the thread 'Legal Space for Firearm Shooting', am disappointed.
If the discharge of the guns has so much of restriction and legal complications, it doesnt make any sense in going through all the trouble in getting hold of the arms license, unless one needs it for self defense, really bad.
We can avail the fun on Arms shooting at a gun range (rifle club), only with less cost and complications, if one wishes.
In this context, Air Guns come in with so much of offerings for fun, with limited resources - as you said, all one needs is 10meter range with a safe backstop.
Happy airgunning...

Basu,

You being one of my AR gurus. Please clarify one more point for me. What is a 'Fallflat Target'. After all if I am attempting to get into airgunning, I need to know these intricate details as well.

I am assuming what basu means by fallflat are the self resetting field targets that are generally in the shape of animal silhouettes.
Basically reactive metal targets that fall flat when hit at precise points and can be reset using a string to prop it back up.

Thanks kshitij, but now a new question, 'what is reactive metal'

My old engineering degree seems be down in the dumps in this new generation. :)

Hahaha... sorry, let me rephrase that, It is a reactive target made of metal. It reacts by falling down if shot within its kill zone.

This may explain better

kshitij put it perfectly.
There is a small kill zone in the target , if it is hit there , target will fall but if it hits elsewhere , you get the hitting sound but it does not fall.
There is a thread attached with this target , which needed to be pulled to bring it back to the earlier position.

Yes, I have seen some on sale on the internet, but trying very hard to recollect the web site. I am sure you would have found something by now. If I come across something like that I will let you know.

There are a lot of sites that have detailed diy steps to make these from wood as well as metal. Look them up, get a good carpenter and make one to your liking :)
