Quality of Precipell Pellets

Hi IFGins,

I have recently got my second Air Rifle from Precihole NX-100 Scorpius in .22 caliber.
Purchased 2 packs of Precipell .22 round head pellets from Kovibazaar.com last week.
Noticed two issues with the pellets:-
1. The pellets are pretty loose on the breech while loading, keeping the barrel at just about 40 to 50 degree, the loaded pellet would drop off
2. Lots of deformed (skirt) pellets in the pack

There were a few other issues as well that I was facing with my AR, so gave a call to the Precihole team.
While mentioning about the loose pellets, they asked what pellets did I use.
When I said its Precipell, they said off late there has been many complaints about the Precipell pellets and they have also noticed considerable drop in quality and dimensions as well, made by G Smith for Precihole.
This is a serious matter considering it decides the life of our ARs, if we use loose pellets, that do not give ample resistance to the pressure exerted by the compressed column of air from the cylinder, by having the snug fit to the barrel inner rifled walls, the compression cylinder, piston seal and lot many other internal components can get damaged.

Among the pack of 200, I have already shot about 140 odd pellets and had thrown away a lot of pellets due to imperfections.
I have picked about 10, 15 pellets here, from the remaining 60 in the pack, that are deformed in some way or the other (about 25% ).
You can do the math and imagine how many I had discarded so far.
For my IHP-35 (.177), I use MasterShot Flat head pellets (Yellow box) and among the 500 pellets, I hardly get about 5 to 8 imperfect/ deformed pellets that I discard (1% to 2%).
But Prechole/ Precipell seems to be slipping on the quality and hope they will .
Have any of you noticed such issues with you Precipell pellets?

The photos do not do complete justice to what exactly I want you guys to notice here, but still, Please have a look at the hand picked deformed pellets:-

Also please note that all of them are not completely unusable, but it depicts the quality or rather the lack of it.

Surely skirts are not uniform.....
Co.has to take a call on that....
Merely satisfied customers can not solve this issue.

The skirts are not not uniform, they are damaged. Can happen due to a number of reasons. Handling and transportation being among them. But it is true that Gsmiths are not able to supply precipells that meet the exact specifications given by precihole.
Try using some other brand till the factory sorts this issue out. JSBs go well with precihole rifles. Not sure about other local brands. Bennedose has done some detailed reviews maybe they can help you with other options...

@kshitij - Transportation doesnt seem to be the reason in this case as the pellets came in the box jam-packed and with upper and lower parts padded with a soft thermocol kind of material. Am quite certain its poor craftsmanship from G Smith that we see here. Am not sure though is its only with a few set of manufacturing lots or more profuse across the board.

From what i hear, the initial lots of pellets were to preciholes specs and were well suited to their rifles. Have experienced this too since i preffered to use only precipells with my NX100 and got good results too.

Of late, for reasons best know to them, Gsmith is not able to deliver on preciholes specs.

But that said, I guess what you have got are not defective but damaged pellets. Try another tin if you have bought more than one and see how the pellets inside them are...

My experience with Precipell is excellent. I had done a review and nothing has changed. They are uniform in size, weight and performance. But I use them only for my Orion.

Here is my review form 2013
http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... le#p206488

I just pick up my Orion, put 4 pellets in my pocket shoot 4 cans/targets from 15-18 meters in 4 pellets and then have breakfast. I have no complaint whatsoever. So far

Yeah...It seems like the issue has started only recently and whoever has the old stock would be happy (lucky) still.
Not sure if anybody who lately purchased has anything different to share here.
Had read about many people having good experience and comments about precipell and went for it.

@kshitij - Point taken, will check the second box of pellets soon and let you guys know if its any better.

I bought Precipell .22 pellets yesterday. I could not find any difference between these pellets and pellets from my previous box. Although we can't expect these to be 100% perfect, precipell is much better than other domestic brand pellets.

Thanks

PS:
Of late I find some very critical analysis being done on Precihole's ARs & their Precipel pellets
If only one were to glean over similar posts made in various forums across the world....they would be surprised that such observations do occur with internationally well known brands of ARs & Pellets!!!
So much for perfection!!!

I just went through my 2 months old unused precipell .22 tin & just 3 came out deformed. Not much to complain there. Infact they are much much better finished than all other Indian brands, is a perfect fit on my IHP & performs similar to MS wadcutter which my gun loves.

@Brihaji - I have shared my concern and complaint with ample evidence and proofs here, I believe.
The photos that I had attached are quite clear and its obvious about the quality drop and deformation, in their pellets.
Also the Precihole call center/ helpdesk team as well agreed that there has been many complaints about their pellets lately.
So these are not mere allegations.

And yes, we will definitely expect a better quality from their pellets as the price is quite high compared to other offerings in the market - I paid Rs.2.05 per pellet.
I have discarded 20% to 25% of the pellets in my first packet, which is not negligible by any measure.
I have had very good experience with MasterShot .177 pellets for which I spent about Rs.350 for a pack of 500 pellets.
Another point, I bought the Precipell pellet from Kovibazaar last week only; Am not aware from where abulkazad sourced his pellets and when.
Also estousandy checked his old stock pellets which may be of a better build lot.
So the comparison may not be fair here, if anyone who bought it from Kovibazaar recently could share their experience, it would be better.
Seeing the confidence of the IFGinas here, I would even dare to speculate if the packs I got are not legit.

I do not have anything against Precihole and this (my posts here) is not a part of any defaming strategy, these are my first hand experiences.
Anybody from Bangalore is welcome to check and validate my claims, in person.

Today I met the Precihole technician and he confirmed there is nothing wrong with my rifle breech.
Its all about the pellet, he tried his version of Precipell .22 round head pellet in my rifle and hey, the head itself is gripping on the walls of the barrel, pretty tight; His pellet was perfect snug fit on my AR.
He tried my pellets and it was loose and it dropped off the breach when he tilted the gun.
Its quite clear now who is the villain.
He also confirmed that its a known fact to Precihole and the doctor that a few recent batches of pellets made by G Smith was of crappy quality and off dimensions and that I have been one of the lucky ones to have received couple of packs from that.

G.Smith pellets are much better than precipells ..much much better.
From my 15-year experience in the foods industry, I can tell you this - never never never outsource your product to a co-manufacturer with similar products, esp. one who has been market leader (or a large player) in the segment before you came along!

:agree:
I've had this experience (power tools)
Best way to overcome this is to have your own QC at the outsourced place!
