Indians For Guns

Hi All,

This is Nithin From Bangalore.

I am new to air guns. This will be my 2nd one. The first one I have is a pistol (look for the attached pic).

Looking to buy Cybergun Sig Sauer X-Five P226 CO2 BB Gun (for its authenticity as a replica, weight, I can dismantle the gun etc.)

Unfortunately, I am not a member of any shooting club/association(yet). When I visited the shops here(Asian Armoury, Bangalore Gun house etc.) they informed me that I do not need to be a member of any shooting club to keep one.

Can I keep the air gun (imported by someone else) without being a member of any shooting club/association?

You can legally keep any air gun, imported or locally made, as long as it passes the deal wood test. Generally all guns under the 12fpe limit should pass this without worry. So yes, go ahead and get what you want.
Also, I saw another thread by you asking about someone selling co2 pistols at over 5 times their usd prices. Dont think these products are worth the prices they are being sold at since you will soon outgrow them. Sadly i say this with firsthand experience

I hope you are being sarcastic here.
But am curious, Is there any register at the Airport/ Customs that keep track of the serial number and the ownership of the imported ARs?
Like for the firearms? Because they take all the pain of checking the AR, doing deal wood test, etc...

I was approached by a seller with a Benjamin Marauder in .25Cal, ofcourse it is imported and since .25cal is a restricted bore am sure am not legally allowed to own one, unless I have a firearms license.
If such a tracking process exists, then I do not think the sellers would take a chance like that...

Thanks for the 12fpe info! I agree with what you are saying about outgrowing them.

This was my confusion ..

For the sake of completion I would like to repeat that there is no Indian law that restricts air rifles to 12 fpe. In fact the Indian Standards Bureau does not even use British Royal units like "foot-pounds" - they use SI units - i.e Joules. 12 fpe is a British power limit.

The limit of power in Indian air rifles has no connection with 12 fpe although people keep on talking as if some British standard is applicable to India. The Indian law states that air rifles should pass the "Deal Wood Test". There is no mention of 12 fpe in Indian laws. For some reason Precihole have decided that 12 fpe is an Indian limit. There is no legal basis for that.

I did the deal wood test on my air rifles and I am guessing that in India even rifles going up to 14 fpe may pass the deal wood test. I don't know why we misquote the law and then worry that we are not allowed to have more power. It is high time we grew out of the shadow of Britain because we keep mixing up what happens abroad with reality for India. It is my ambition to do a proper crony+weight of pellet calculation of power and then see what air rifles in India are doing. No one, not even on IFG seems to be doing that. No point complaining about Indian power limits if we are quoting British standards. I am seeing the British law being quoted again and again and again on IFG as if it applies to India.

I agree with bennedose. Regardless of fpe or bore diameter etc., once the airgun is inside India by hook or crook, all that matters for "possession" of airgun within India is the satisfaction of Central Government notification No. G.S.R 991 dated 13-7-1962.
