Dear noviceairgunner,
Please post pictures of the parts in question. The quick reply is: The safest thing to do is to change both parts.
Regards

About 1 year ago my SDB 50 started auto-firing. I had discussed that on a thread in this forum.

I had thick blobs of brass deposited on the trigger sear as well as the piston sear and them filed them off painfully and slowly till everything was fine. An earlier attempt at using brass weld only on the trigger failed. Contrary to my expectation, a thick enough blob of brass which did not end in a razor sharp edge worked, despite brass being much softer than steel.

Here is a link to the last post of that thread which has useful inputs from many people.

I must point out that I retired that SDB 50 after firing a further 1000 shots or so after the repair. It still works but the sights suck, so the rifle is in storage as of now

Here is what the initial blob of brass looked like (click on image)

But I filed it too much and it failed when it reached the appearance below. I had to get more brass deposited and left a "plateau" rather than a sharp peak

The following worked

There are things that you can do as being suggested earlier.
If you are not aware as to how to do that ..better get new piston and trigger from IHP.
They will send those to you against payment.
Please contact them over phone or by mail.
Needless to mention....IHP is a very nice gun if tuned properly.
