Hello Respected Members Here,

I am a new member of this site, though I was following this site for a quite a time. I love staffs like guns and air guns. Recently, I was surfing in a website and found out an Air rifle known as G.D. Products, Model-600. It is a Local made(Indian)
air-rifle. Then after I went to the gun shop in Kolkata, and watched the model there. I liked this particular model and want to buy it.

If any member here, has any experience with the specific air rifle or the pros and cons of the same, then please let me know. I want advice from all of you regarding the rifle. I am also including the specification provided by the seller(shop) website.

Name: Model 600 Manufacturer: G.D. Sports
Type: Break Barrel(though it looks like an underlever one, but it's a break barrel)
Cal: .22/5.6 mm Effective Range: 35 mtr. Weight: 5.5 kg(!!! ) ( and ooh.. yes, it is heavy, checked at the shop by myself)

Hope quickly I will get some specific advices from all of you.

Thanks & Regards,

Strong_Gun

Dear strong_gun,

Getting excellent guns in given price ,is no issue in Kolkata.
I would request you to do a bit of research in Airgun section , based on your requirement and decide accordingly.
A 5.5 kgs gun requires good muscles to handle it ,which i dont have.

Hello Basu,

Thanks for sharing your views here. Yes, I know several types of local made air rifles are available in Kolkata in good price range. And I have already gone to all most all major gun selling shops in Kolkata and watched the model available there. But the reason behind my preference for GD-600 is its awesome and distinguished look. As I do not know about the performance and power of the gun, so i posted here. And, yes, the weight of gun made me feel like I was holding some .30-06 gun. :D So, what are the air rifles are you operating currently???

Regards,

Strong_Gun

I would go for it if the price is right. Springers are living beasts - and you need to get used to one and really "know" it after which you can do all sorts of things with it. My feeling after checking out a variety of Indian air rifles is that the power difference is not great - the designs are similar and no manufacturer wants to be seen exceeding the legal limit. Make sure the barrel is rifled. No rifling, no accuracy beyond 5-7 meters. And make sure the rear sights can be adjusted for windage (side to side) and elevation (up-down).

AIMCO has GD 600 listed at Rs 4800, but someone on IFG earlier paid 12,800!! Please don't get cheated.

Dear Basu,

Thanks again for your replying. As per your advice I will surely check all the details, post and articles available in the forums of this website. I have little knowledge about 3 guns of your collection such as National 25, SDB-45 and SN-45. But the name of the gun Appu 35 is new to me. I guess this product is not available here in Kolkata. I hope you won't mind if I ask for another advice from you. The question is: "Whether it is good or bad using of tactical scopes while target practicing as a beginner?? To improve personal accuracy which option is better? with scope practice or without scope practice? "

Hello bennedose,

thanks a lot for your advice. As your have already said about the legal issue of the power of Indian air rifles, as far I know it is fixed to less than or equal to 650 fps for all type of air rifles and the Aimco GD 600 has power less than 600. Is that right??? You know, some days before, I was at the shop of Aimco at Kolkata and checked the beautiful beast there. I found out that the real sight of the gun is adjustable but I hadn't checked the rifling that time. But the next time while visiting them, I will surely check the rifling in the gun. Please let me know What should be the no of rifling in an average to have a good accuracy in an air-rifle? And yes, here at Aimco the price is exactly same as it is listed and that is Rs. 4800.

Strong_Gun

fps will vary with weight of pellet.

As per the book by Cardew - I would not worry too much about the number of rifling grooves. Cardew and Cardew demonstrated that they could simply use sand paper to scratch a spiral groove in a smooth bore air rifle and get it to be more accurate.

In fact I want to try this with an old smoothbore that I have.

Days back I had seen Appu Brand ARs at J Biswas.
Apart from the guns mentioned earlier ,I fired Cannon35/65,Daws 65,Tommy 35 Hunter 50(smoothbore), Jimmy 200 U/L, SDB 2000, Precihole SX 100 and NX club Elite.
Precihole and SDB 2000 are the guns of a different league.
In India , NX club Elite is the best gun ever made for Tgt shooters.
Cannon 35/65 do come next .
All Kolkata made ARs including IHPs are subjected to serious tuning for excellent performance.
You need to decide the purpose first.
If you are upto serious tgt shooting ,it should be IHP National or Precihole.
If you are for casual tgt shooting mainly plinking ,the whole lot of options are there.
Most Kolkata made guns are the clones of old Diana 35.
Finally it you have deep pocket ,may go for foren stuffs too.

Dear Basu,

sir, i loved the staffs like guns and air rifles from my childhood, though I never owned one for monetary problem. But now I have the money and the time to dedicate for air rifles and shooting, and I am going to buy a brand one in a few days. I am going to start the thing as a casual target shooting and have a strong intention to change it to a serious one after I become master with at least one gun. Actually this particular thing I have came to know from the recommendations of masters like you in different articles in this website. Now I have a few questions for you and let me state them one by one.

1. You have mentioned that you saw the Appu brand at J.Biswas in kolkata, but the thing is I was there at J.Biswas just a month ago, and asked them to show air rifles under price range of Rs. 5000/-. But they didn't show me the brand. So, can you please tell me the price of the rifle??

2. After you stated about the "tuning" part in your last post, I read about the thing in several articles here and understand the basic concepts of it. But, it is said that the tuning of an air-rifle should be done by some specialist hand after firing of some 500-1000 round. So, can you please tell me the shop which will be best for my air rifle tuning in Kolkata??

3. Sir, I also need an advice from you (i have already stated it to you and asking you again), that which option is better for a beginner shooter? a) practicing with some tactical-scope? b) practicing without any tactical-scope?? Please let me know the pluses and minuses of the both method if possible

Thanks & Regards,

Strong_Gun

Hello bennedose,

The idea of yours as you have stated in the last line of your post was superb I guess. Let me know the result of your improvisation later on. You, have mentioned the name of some book by Cardew, right? Actually due to my little knowledge, I am not accustomed to the name of the book. But I want to read the book to increase my knowledge. So, can you please tell me that whether the book is available or not in the internet? Or if you have some pdf of the same, can you please mail me that in my id?? Please let me know.

Regards,

Strong_Gun

Dear SG,
I have already mentioned my opinion about various guns which fired over years.
There may be a lot beyond those also and I should not comment about them without firing/testing .
My top most rating goes to SDB 45 with scope rail.
The owner of Hunter is no more.
Now a days Appu hardly makes any gun on their own.
First you go for 0.22 caliber and after using that in case you decide to go for serious tgt shooting , go for high end options in 0.177.

Basu

To my knowledge there is no pro.tuner in Kolkata.
I did every thing on my own ,having read various posts of gunsmith sec.and taking advice fr others over phone.

Respected Basu Sir,

I have already decided to buy an air rifle of 0.22 cal as my first one. I will keep all the advices you have shared here. I do also have future plans about NX-100 and SDB 45 or SDB 2000. I will let you know about my first gun as soon as I buy it. You have also mentioned the low production of the Appu air rifles, may be that was the reason why J. Biswas people didn't show me the rifle. Any way, sir, I need a small favor from you. As both of us are from Kolkata, so will you please advice me by phone or in person(if possible) when I would need to tune my first air-rifle?? Please let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

Strong_Gun
