Monsoon Preparations

Hi Guys, with the monsoons just round the corner, I was oiling my air rifles and pistol today for rain prep. I just use a light coat of one of the readily available machine oils. What sort of preparation does everyone over here do in anticipation of the rains? My problem is exaggerated by the fact that I'm right across from the sea so corrosion is a routine problem with everything.

Just wanted to hear what the others out here are doing and what products they use to keep their guns in shape through the rains. Any special products that you can list for the same purpose would be helpful.

Thanks.

I stay some 8-10 kms far from bank of river Ganga.
It remains very very humid during this time.
I watched that here the metal part of ARs are very sensitive to sweat and if I forget to mop it clean ,the hint of rust develops very quickly.
So I have to mop it clean and then use light coat of 40 grade mobile to maintain it from rusting.

1. Wipe all metal partsof the gun with a dry cloth
2. Wipe all the metal parts with 'singer sewing machine oil' soaked soft cloth
3. Never store guns in their cases
4. Store you guns in a plastic sleeve with a few holes in it (to avoid trapped moisture that initiate rusting) + a few pouches of silica gel
5. If you have a gun cabinet then plastic sleeve is not necessary
6. It would be adviceable to repeat the wiping & oiling once a month

Briha...why do you say never to store the guns in their cases?? That's exactly how I keep mine!! Along with some silica gel pouches.

Gun cases are made of cloth, canvas, rexine, leather etc.
All of these are prone to absorbing moisture & retaining it...
Moisture / humidity is the main cause of iron oxidation which to a layman is known as RUST
Have you understood so far?
So in your own interest to protect your gun / gunsfrom 'rusting' you would do well to store them as mentioned in the previous post.
If you have been storing you gun / guns in their cases with silica gel pouches there is no guarantee that your ARs will be safe from rusting!!!
