Dear Sir,
I request guidance on how to fix a scope rail on the cylindrical chamber of a side levered .22 spring rifle. Can it be fixed with araldite or similar substance? Will it harm the metal ? I dont actually wish to drill holes into the chamber. kindly guide.

Dear Friend,
I never saw any Indian made side lever ..
I used DIANA 54 air king... since its foreign brand obviously it has provision of scope mount...

can you let me know what brand air rifle is yours ? will be easier to guide you !!

Hi Ganguly,
I hope this helps...
First things first...even a small wrong angle of the rail placement could mess the accuracy completely, so please pay attention. But don't be discouraged...its an easy process if you are careful.
Firstly, sight your rifle at 10 meters.
Then tie a thread from the front sight to the back through the V notch at the back site. This will give you a straight line of vision.
Next, place the rail on top of the rifle under the thread such that the thread passes over the centre of all the holes in the rail.
This will align the rail perfectly.
Carefully use a marker / pencil to mark the rail holes on the AR.
I would advice you to screw the rail to the AR.
You will have to drill the AR to screw the rail. This requires the precise drill bit. I would advice you to seek the help of a lathe operator / fabricator. Its a very very simple process for them.
Use short screws or screws supplied with the rail. This will not damage your AR.
Apply araldite to the bottom of the rail and screws, and screw them tight. Allow to set.
Remember only the front 15% to 20% approx is the compression chamber, the remaining 80% to 85% is the spring chamber.
It is the compression chamber that should not be drilled.
You can remove the stock and have a look underneath to get an idea.

A few pointers...
1) Fix the rail as far back, about 1/2 inch in front of the power plant cap (the screw-on-cap at the back).
2) Some rails have a forward and backward position. Make sure you know which side should face froward.

I hope this helpes....all the best ! ! ! :D

Good advice big daddy :D
BTW - While Araldite is a good option, the scope rail has its advantages, in that you can provide a 'scope stop' hole....as this helps arrests scope slip.
Good luck!

I personally would not advice araldite alone.
Nothing like screwing / welding it down.

Yes the slide stopper is a very important function especially for a springer.

hi
Welding is an option to be avoided at all times as the high temp. will damage the receiver. I have used araldite, but if you are using heavy scope, the whole rail to come out with scope on it after couple thousand sots(happened more than twice). And then you go over the procedure all over again. my suggestion would be to screw the rail to the receiver.

> While on the subject of applying araldite prior to screwing the rail on to the receiver...better follow these steps:
1. Mark the position on the receiver where the scope rail is to be fixed
2. Use masking tape to cover the peripheries
3. Sand the exposed surface to make it a bit rough & clean the surface with surgical spirit
4. Sand the underneath surface of the scope rail similarly & clean with surgical spirit
5. Apply even coat of araldite on both the sanded & cleaned sufaces (rail & receiver)
6. Set the scope rail & screw it down - do not over tighten the screws - just enough to get a firm hold
7. Clean any excess araldite that has creeped out with surgical spirit
8. Leave it overnight

Happy Shooting :D

Epoxy and screws. You can try cold welding epoxy like jb weld or Anabond steel epoxy / anasteel. these coldwelding componds generally have very high shear strength, and can be sanded or drilled once set.
