My tuned IHP35 0.22cal (aka Samurai 3G) is a pleasure to shoot, with predictable accuracy at 30ft giving ½” groups consistently. However, a certain turn of events led me to further experiment with it…blame it on the DIY bug!
While rummaging through my tool box I came upon a spare IHP35 piston and this triggered the following:
1. Got a groove cut on the rear end of the piston to seat a 3.5mm wide & 1.5mm thick polymer thrust bearing…
2. Had the piston sear filed to ensure a smooth trigger release…
3. Gave the entire piston - 11 micron hard nickel-chrome coating…
These 6 operations were at minimizing friction & render a near vibration free shooting experience and also to elevate efficiency levels…
1. The next step was fitting an OX Accelerator Main Spring (obtained from TW Chambers UK)
2. SS rear guide & top-hat + spacers – machined by a local lathe operator…
3. DANIL synthetic seal with adaptor from Target-Tune.
4. Replaced the breech seal with a ‘Nitrile’ ‘O’ Ring
5. Added a foam rubber “Cheek piece & Fore-end grips” added comfort while shooting.
6. Bedded the receiver on 2mm thick foam strips to absorb vibrations
After lubing the internals of the receiver, piston + spring kit with a light coat of moly, the final fitting was done - the resultant feel & performance was very satisfactory.
1. 35+lbs cocking pressure.
2. Trigger release at 1200gms = 2 ¾lbs approx.
3. Smooth & accurate firing with very short lock-time / firing cycle.
Tested with 14.2gr RWS Super H Point pellets & 15gr PRECIHOLE Rd. Head pellets.
Range 30ft approx. Hold – Sitting Knee rested – 5/8” 5 shot groups – PICS attached.
The whole exercise turned out to be an enjoyable DIY experience!!!
Have a great week-end guys
