Hello All,
I am immensely enjoying my Precihole SX100 purchased under guidance of this forum :)
The longest I have been accurately shoot is 2 inch coconut at 50 feet. It may have been more luck.
I want to ask the members what is the maximum range at which you can shoot fairly accurate without scope?

If you can do coconut at 50 feet you will be able to do it at 75 feet.

Hi timuseravan,
> Wow! That's some shooting man :D
> SX100 is a very accurate air rifle, I have one too but fitted with a gas ram....
> Scope helps to shoot at longer distances as one can sight the target a bit more closer & clearly... You should be able to hit a 75ft++ target with a scope....
> If your eyesight is good, have a steady hand or use a bench rest, you should be able to hit the coconut at 75ft too without a scope:D
> BTW- what pellet did you use?

A 2 inch coconut is a more difficult task than a standard 4 to 4.5 inch de-husked coconut aka "nariyal". 2 inch targets at 50 feet (16-17 meters) are doable with an accurate rifle without sights and suitable pllets - for me that means Orion with GSmith or Precipell

At 75 feet - or 22 ,eters or so it is more difficult to hold the rifle stedy - on small target in the artillery stance - and unless there is good contrast between target and background it is easier to miss. With good contrast it is doable without sights.

The pellet is as important as a rifle.

Hitting a de-husked Narial at 25 yds is possible with open sight but not a table tenis ball.
To sight a TT ball , one need to have a scope by the same shooter.

I very recently shot a small plastic glass with water in it at 25 yards. I used my uncle's Indian made airgun with peep sight in it.

The gun was very accurate till 30 yards. Pellets used were master shot normal quality. I didn't want to take my NX-100 to my village because of the election code.

Who wants to get in trouble with the police mama's during election time? My NX-100 has killer looks now (gun is all black and scope is black powder coated), after mounting a BSA scope.

I'm sure they will mistake it for a real gun. I don't want to get in to arguments and lose my baby. Better safe than sorry.

I am tempted to buy a Scorpius - but I am waiting to make sure my family don't think I have gone more nuts than I already am. Another issue - the Gas Ram models have not hit the shelves in Bangalore and AIMCO is my only choice. I prefer to see the hardware I am buying to rule out barrel droop/elevation etc - so I'm still marking time on the Scorpius. Besides I was wondering if I could get one with a wooden stock appearance.

The maximum shooting range for any individual with any gun ( with or without scope ) is the range at which he could hit the target with his favorite rifle- pellet combination every time he shoots.
Regards.

2 inch target at 50feet is impressive dude. From what I heard, it's very accurate until 35-40 feet.

@bennedose : If you want to have a look at the Precihole Scorpius, you can go to the NR road (Narasimharaja Rd, Kumbaragundi, Kalasipalayam). Its available at one of the first stores (not mentioning the names intentionally :)) that comes in that road. They even have the Karbin model in stock.
I paid a visit to the stores in that road last week to have a look for myself, as even I was skeptical about the look & feel of the synthetic stock. But seems OK to me, did not buy from them as the price quoted was high. I personally prefer buying from stores as we have the option of choosing the best one fits us, by looking at the feel, barrel droop, sights, trigger and overall finish. When we purchase from AIMCO (never did till now), we dont have choices, moreover the Scorpius is not in stock there as of now.
Hopefully the Precihole team would bring out the 'wooden look' stock rifles to the market pretty soon, saw the snaps and looks good. Also looking forward at the launch of the PCP from them.

Dear Friend,
Not Maximum :? somehow without scope shot could be taken near to 40 yards in Indian air rifles very easily...all depends on the judgement of your weapon and pellet trajectory..

watch this video a target has been taken at 80 yards by hatsan air rifle ...

(why not we give a try with our Indian made too?)
