1. Depending on your budget/caliber of the rifle you want, you may buy IHP35/Precihole SX and NX series

2. Buy rifles from http://WWW.AIMCO.CO.IN IHP 35 - 6600 to 6900INR, Precihole - 9950 to 14400INR

3. You may want to buy a carrying case, pellets (GSmith, Precipell, Master Shot Export quality) and a scope if you are interested in shooting beyond 35 yards

4. Think there are shooting ranges in Mumbai. Please connect with the folks from Mumbai and they can give you the details.

You can go for Savarkar range (opp Shivaji Park), MRA (Worli - near the Century end of Worli Seaface). There's one at Mulund gymkhana and somewhere in Parla too, AFAIK.

For shooting at ranges or competition shooting, you need a 0.177 cal AR. They won't allow you anywhere close to a range with 0.22, esp in Mumbai. I shoot 0.22, so I have never been on a range.

Our competition shooters in Mumbai, e.g. Airgun Novice, Fantumfan, etc., would be able to shed more light on this.

As for airguns, go for a Precihole 0.177 in gas ram. You can't go much wrong with it, and even if you do, their cosumer service is light years ahead of the competition. You can buy from the shops around Crawford Market, if you prefer to handle the gun first. If you prefer to buy online, then AIMCO is the best option, as mentioned by Tiger above. It is also sold by oliveplanet, but they are quite expensive compared to AIMCO or shops.

Agree with GNV, Precihole is one of the best Indian made rifles. Very accurate and very powerful.

I would suggest going for gas ram instead of the springer.
