A few weeks ago I discovered that the rivet holding the cocking lever to the undeerside of the barrel was not fixed and had a tendency to protrude out from one side where it was gouging a deep groove in the stock. I'm lucky that the rivet didn't simply fall out as it is totally unfixed.

It took me several weeks to find out what was going on and a few more weeks before I realized that a small patch of black insulation tape on both sides of the rivet held it in place and pervented further damage. Not sure is there is any permanent method.

The photo below illustrates the problem

You can use a 45 degree punch and hit the pin on the sides for a permanent solution.

Dear benne,
What M has said ,is the best solution.
In case you dont have punch ,you may
use 3 mm cycle ball bearing on the rivet
hole and hammer it hard to settle the issue.

But what if I want to open up the rifle? If the rivet is banged into place I would not be able to detach the lever from the barrel.Would that not be a problem?

Dear benne,
There is hardly any need to detach the C lever from barrel. If need be ,a flat punch ,equal to the OD of the pin to be hammered to take out the pin.
